Because in the earlier days of video gaming - violence, no matter how minimal was still being hotly debated as "damaging to our youth" thereby leaving many developers in a conundrum of contributing toward the argument. Context, amount or how gratuitious was really not being taken as an excuse at that time but in our times it very much is. A War Game (tabletop strategy being exempt) is expected to have at least a mild sort of resemblance of violence and a small pool of blood wouldnt raise an eyebrow ANYWHERE. If you know of any such present day critic please direct me to their sites im honestly curious. That is why the sentiment applies less in today -its all about context of the present day society.
I am a present day critic. I think the bodies are more than enough.

An understandable sentiment for circa 2000 -albeit far too conservative for this day and age. Its almost so brazenly missing as to feel war is too sanitized. Heck my kids lego games have beheadings and dismemberment -im not vouching for tasteless, obsessive death porn -but bloody pools of sprite seems about right. Well at least mods do exist.
I don't think that sentiment applies any less because it's 2020. Why would it?

It would also be interesting to play any game saves from others- something like a saved scenario, 25% of the way in (or around when everything gears up), for instance. Like the player is 2nd in command, suddenly thrown into the action (and in charge of adapting someone else's plan).
I pity the guy who has to take over after my guys have just rushed the objective way too early...

Just a hindsight thing where we would have done things differently had we known how long it was going to take.
You mean like take the money and do BARBAROSSA! When he asks about it you just show him scenarios with Italians fighting Russians with lend-lease armor.

And I didn't know that Fortress Italy was basically financed by some wealthy CM fan. If I win the lottery there will definitely be Ost Front 1941-43. Or should I spend my money on speeding up CMX3? Being rich must be hard, all these decisions. Oh wait, I'll just fund both.
That explains a lot. I always wondered why they went all in on that campaign and left the East Front to just lay there. How much do you think they got? If they had just had an auction I think we could have outbid that guy and got something we really wanted...

If you like the ACW then check out the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series from MMP. https://www.multimanpublishing.com/Products/tabid/58/CategoryID/21/Default.aspx

In your case I can understand that.
More useless comments are welcome, so please don't hesitate.
Hmmm. I am going to assume that you are trying for humor...but failed.

It does. I know by now such statements are not written in stone, but it's something to hold on to.
Indeed. I have rescheduled my entire summer around a 21 Sept release.

They still haven't posted for pre-orders yet so it would be several months after they started taking the pre-orders. More than likely Fall/Winter before module comes out.
Pre-orders to release for Rome to Victory was 5 months. For Shock Force 2 it was 4 months. I'm thinking Christmas. Hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised...at Thanksgiving.

It would appear that after the first couple of ranging shots the gun is super accurate. Seems a little problematic but fixable. We need to remember that trading shots with an opposing tank is not SOP. The internal model is trying to get the first 3 shots about "right" and after that I'm guessing the extension of the accuracy model is not great but acceptable as it shouldn't happen except rarely.
But I would like to see some data on weapon kills, they seem too easy. But maybe not...

Maybe it's a feature? Check with Charles...

Can't see any difference.
What about crew experience?
-
Have you tried the same test but with an MG-34 peppering the firing tank? I wonder if that will effect how soon he gets the range and subsequent shots.
-
First, don't trade shots. Keep moving.
Second, once you have the range it is relatively easy to hit the same spot over and over. Assuming the commander can see the hit and provide confirmation to the gunner that he has the range it is just the matter of aligning the site and setting the target at the correct range mark. Of course, this is hard to do when in combat and the other guy is shooting back, the muzzle blast is kicking up dust, the tank commander is screaming at you, you're tired, thirsty and hungry, etc. Maybe the game doesn't include enough off that...

How heavy were these armored vests? Was there a German small arm that wouldn't penetrate this easily? Or was it more like a helmet, protecting against flying debris? In close-in fighting I think they wouldn't do much more than slow you down...

Anybody follow @Tank_Archives on twitter? He has some good info on Soviet stuff on his website http://www.tankarchives.ca/. But his twitter feed reads like he just stepped out of the 1970's. Everything that isn't Soviet made is crap. Very amusing if he wasn't so serious...

It's not as sexy as a panther at full speed but dang.. .I do like the StuG IV!
Does anyone have an opinion as to which was better - the III or the IV? Since they both had the same gun I would guess the (slightly) smaller III with better suspension would have an advantage. Probably a very tiny advantage...

You wouldn't BELIEVE the things I know that I'm no allowed to say!
About a CMRT vehicle pack adding out-of-timeframe vehicles, that's not really how BFC flies. They make painstakingly researched historical tactical sims, not World of Tanks. Eastern Front 1945 doesn't resemble eastern front 1942 at all. I gasped when Steve added PzIII to the module but that was specifically for the northern Baltic region where they were still in use 'til war's end. They even refused to include Panther D model because its 1945, not 1943.
I understand the problem, but the use of the vehicle's would still be governed by availability within a scenario so it wouldn't get any more out of hand than situation we have right now. Or would it...

Doesn't matter what Mike thinks in case as he wouldn't be making the call. It is of course possible he knows things he's not allowed to say. Let's find out. Mike, yes or no, do you know things you're not allowed to say?
I didn't ask what he knows but what he thinks of the idea...
-
Mike, what do you think about a vehicle pack at some point to fill in some of the earlier stuff? I am worried BF will never finish the East Front before they switch to CMx3 and the wait starts all over again...
-
I doubt we will see the KV-85 in this module. It ended production before the base game starts and was only produced in small numbers. Maybe in the Kursk module...

After reading that last couple of pages of this thread I get the impression that BF are facing an existential crisis of some kind! Is the end upon us? Does anyone know?
I like to think that Charles and Steve are more frustrated by the limitations of the current engine than anyone of us. But they have to eat and so the life of the current engine continues. That's a good thing, for something to continue it must first survive...
Anyway, after 20 years, I still visit the forums regularly and buy all of the WWII titles. Including CMx1, I am in for well over $500 - I think I have gotten my money's worth!
For me, as I have said (many times) before, my interest is in Germany vs Russia (6 June 41 to 4 July 43) and not much else. I think Steve feels the same way based on his comments when Barbarossa is brought up. I wonder why that didn't happened before the Italian campaign was finished - is there really that much interest in that theater? Saving it for CMx3? Maybe...
-
Ditto. I've been here for 21 years, and I still get enjoyment from the series. Of course, I would enjoy it more if we had Barbarossa in CMx2...
