  1. When I try installing CM on my one computers I get the message "error extracting support files" and I cannot contine with the setup.

The demo works fine and I never had any problems installing the demo.

I have a P266 mmx computer with 128 MB of memory and all the latest drivers.

Very strange that I cannot get the game to install from the disk but on the other hand had no problems with installing the demo.

BTW I had no problems installing CM on my other computer.

I hope someone can help me here

    Thanks

  3. JeffRaiders comment on the SSi CC forum was uncalled for.

I do not think you would like someone to come onto this forum from the SSi forum and start insulting the designers of CM? Now would you....

Man! like everyone else here I am looking forward very much to my copy of CM just like I was when I got my copy of CC2 a few years back!

And like I said on the SSi forum the designers for BOTH games should be commended for a job well done!

I have made some good friends playing many hours of CC online just like I have playing the CM demo by email and that is what makes all of this worthwhile in my opinion!

  4. It seems every time my wife sees me playing Combat Mission she asks me why do I play this game that has a lot killing?

I tell her I don't look at the game this way...it is like a form of chess, trying to out maneuver my opponent to win the game.

Both my wife and my dog hate the sound of guns ablazing so I have to use a headset to appease them smile.gif

Has anyone else had to explain the game to their wives or girlfriends?

  5. It's back on the History Channel here in Canada. At least the Germans speak German in the series! The tanks are post WW2 and the Germans seem to use a lot of captured .50 cal HMGs but overall a great series.

In one show an American squad was pinned down & fired a smoke grenade into the German strongpoint to escape..something I still would like to be able to do in CM one day smile.gif

  6. No problem with my Pentium II 300 with a TNT 32 meg video card but on my P266mmx computer with a voodoo 3 16 meg video card the curser would disappear when the CM screen appeared. When I put mouse pointer on default setting the problem disappeared smile.gif

I had been using a larger mouse pointer before and that could of been the problem in my case.

  7. Good point Wild Bill..this question was talked about in great lengths on the Close Combat forums when CC1 and CC2 came out a few years ago showing blood on those dead soldiers in the game. A number of people objected at first to Atomic for putting in the blood but now with CC3 & CC4 the question is no longer raised and the blood associated with the dead bodies is a normal part of the game and a non-issue as it should be.

The dead body markers (with or without blood) in Combat Mission for sure is a great addition to the game.

  8. Late in the war the Panther was the obvious choice as the main battle tank for the Germans.

The Panther Ausf. F with a 7.5 cm gun & schmalturm turret was already on the production lines when the war ended.

The Panther II was close behind in development with a 8.8 cm Kw.K 43 gun and a schmalturm turret. In fact all available Panthers were to be converted with the 8.8 cm Panther-Schmalturm.

  9. I recently played the Last Defense as the Americans where my opponents both drove their H/Ts with great speed right down the main road and into the town with devastating effect. This was done in the first minutes of the game!

The element of surprise really worked as my 50 cal and zook teams couldn't react fast enough.

My question: If this scenario was played for the first time or a similar scenario when the final version comes out would you sacrifice H/Ts and send them right in the middle of a town without not knowing the enemy's disposition? By first probing the area with scouts, use of arty & smoke seems more logical to me but then the Germans were great in Blitz attacks also.

I myself play these 3 beta scenarios as if I do not know the enemy's strength to gain experience in tactics when the final version comes out. I often lose but gain plently of knowlege which I feel will help me when the game come out.

  10. Maybe in CM2 we get get a screen to display where there had been casualties and the possibility of scavenging weapons and/or ammo from these spots.

We have a pathing screen and a base screen which can be turned off and on so why not a casualty spot screen?

    Just a suggestion.

Also like the idea of being able to man the 50 cal of a Sherman or Hellcat. Remember Audie Murphy and how he jumped on an abandoned Hellcat to fire a 50 cal at a German counter-attack thwarting its advance.

But again this is getting into individualism which Steve has mentioned in previous posts as difficult to achieve for infantry at the present.

  11. I would like in CM2 the ability of Mortar or gun crews to re-man their mortars or guns if they had abandoned them earlier and if the

guns are still in working order and of course the men are not in any apparent danger.

As mentioned earlier in this thread the ability of the above crews to use carbines instead of pistols when confronting the enemy at close range. ie. As the 88 crews did in the movie "When Trumpets Fade".

The second man in a Schreck or Bazooka team should also be carrying a carbine slung over his shoulder for use in close action engagements.

The ability to have a tank crew bail out of an immobilized vehicle if in real danger or gun crew abandon their gun to seek shelter and to re-man their position once the danger has passed, or if necessary to have the crew withdraw.

Even if these enhancements are not added for certain reasons the game still ranks as number one.

  12. I have a voodoo1 add-on video card in one computer and that's where I play most of my PBEM games. I have also an 8 mg ATI rageIIc card with limited 3D in my other computer where I sometimes play the games when my kids are using the better computer.

The images of infantry and tanks are larger than normal but I find it extremely more easier to be able to find the enemy without changing the map position all the time.

The Tiger looks to be the same size as a Maus making it even more menacing smile.gif
