  1. A day to remember here in Canada too. I wear my poppy proudly.

The History Channel is showing some interesting Documentaries on the Canadians in action during WWII and also the Canadians that have received the Victoria Cross over the years starting with the Boer War.

One known recepient lives in my home town, "Smokey" Smith. His story can be found under the Canadian Operation in Italy story on my Panther page: http://members.tripod.com/~dietmagic/panther2.html

I recently talked to a German Fighter Ace so it is important to remember those who fought for the Axis as well. This man is famous for escorting a crippled B17 out of enemy territory. His story: http://www.afa.org/magazine/valor/0197valor.html

  2. Harv, I was having the same problem with my Nvidia Riva TNT card but it was more intermittant and all the time but just about all the time with the FOG turned on.

See my "Fog Table Emulation Problem" entry.

I installed the directx8 beta update and disabled the AGP texturing as it froze on me on the 3rd test (first 2 times it went ok, thus I guess probably why the intemittant problem).

I then ran some game turns with FOG turned on fully and voila no more freeze ups!

I have tried these game turns 3 times and no freeze ups so diabling the AGP texturing is the thing to do.

Thanks Harv and others for all the input on this subject smile.gif

  3. Thanks for all the help. I will install the latest bios for my Motherboard.

I did install the 0634 drivers for the NVidia card and was successful in one turn with Fog turned on without the screen freezing but this is an intermittent problem so I'm going to be optomistic yet if the problem has been fixed.

BTW my NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 32M card was by Sniper.

  4. Madmatt, when the game locks it just hangs and sometimes by continually hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del the system will reboot or if that fails I have to manually hit reset.

It locks about all the time in Foggy scenarios (sometimes in the beginning or half way through a given turn) and very seldom will lock up with the the FOG turned off. When it does lockup with the Fog off or in other type battles it is because I am using the latest detonator 3 drivers for my NVidia TNT2 Model 64 32M card. Earlier drivers never lock up except for Foggy scenarios with Fog turned on.

    This is really baffling me.

  5. I keep getting intermittent problems with the game freezing on me when I have the fog emulation on for battles involving fog.

    I have NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 32M card running on my Pentium2 300 w/128M of memory.

    I also am using directx7.

I also have installed the latest drivers.

I was wondering is my sound card which is a Yamaha OPL3x?

  6. Lately I have experienced problems sending attached CM turns to some (not all) of my opponents from corrupted files to files embedded in the email message.

I mainly use Eudora Lite which works most of the time with other PBEM opponents but now I having to resort to Pegasus which seems to work in a little for better for my other opponents who are experiencing problems receiving attachemnts.

Don't know if this is possible but it would be nice if everyone used the same Emailer to avoid problems.

My vote would be for Eudora Lite for its simplicity.

Are any others having PBEM problems also?

    Can't wait for the TCP/IP patch smile.gif

  7. I am sad to report that Rick Jason who starred as Lt. Hanley in the series "Combat!" died this past Sunday, the 15th. That's now 3 of the regulars of the Combat Cast who have died...Rick Jason, Dick Peabody (Littlejohn) and Vic Morrow (Sgt. Saunders).

Fortunately I recently taped that great 2 part episode of Combat "Hills are for Heroes" in which Rick Jason played a major role. It was for sure one of the best episodes of "Combat!" and I think there is a CM scenario based on that show.

I am glad the Canadian History Channel continues to show "Combat!" which are presently showing the colour episodes of the show.

  8. Joe has a point there, VLs are a thorny issue. It was always a big issue in Close Combat with rushes in the last few minutes of the game just to gain a VL which upset several players to the point many CC players would only play "fight to the death" scenarios.

In CC snipers cannot change the colour of a VL. It should be the same in CM.

A variable ending would also be nice to see in CM similar to Steel Panthers.

In QBs what is the point value on VLs?

If you have beaten up your opponent badly and have lots of units left but did not take any VLs when time expired and your opponent may hold one of 2 VLs with a decimated force what would the outcome look like?

  9. Preacher, I too thought it was Konig but apparently it was Thorvald...This I got from the "War of the Rats" web site:

(Soon, Zaitsev's group became so effective that the Germans realized their victory depended on their ability to kill Zaitsev. So they brought in their best sniper from Berlin. But Heinz Thorvald, the opera-loving shooting instructor who could hit a small target from a thousand meters, was only marginally a soldier. "I pull a trigger and people fall down," he says, in War of the Rats.)

  10. I had a similar problem. When I copied over the BMPs to my hard drive I noticed what could be the cause of the problem. When you go to your CMBO folder in Windows Explorer look at the date of the BMP files...mine read January 1, 2032!

I think with the date mixup you get problems trying to run the Setup wizard.

Is there anyway to change the date from 2032?

I hope to be still playing CM by that date BTW smile.gif

ps..anyone else get that date, January 1, 2032?
