  1. Hello everyone! Unfortunately, this post isn't as, shall we say, provocative as recent threads, but I had this idea while playing a PBEM today. This may have been put in already, but I don't remember reading about it in this forum. The new feature I'm suggesting may make it easier to identify which units are being attacked within the current 60-second turn. What I suggest is that, whenever a unit is attrited (i.e., takes a casualty), the color of its status indicator (for example, 5 healthy 3 wounded) changes to a different color than white. So, as you run the 60-second movie, units that receive casualties can be quickly identified with this visual, especially when using the "+ -" scrolling button. Like I said, something like this may have already been implemented, but I thought I'd just run this idea by everyone. Mike
  2. Madmatt, Thanks for the laugh, especially after a day of reading though all those "not so nice" posts. Keep up the good work, Mike
  3. Hand raised. Much like Panzerleader, when I was playing SL, all my other friends were entertaining themselves with the likes of Pacman (I guees I dated myself with that last statement!). Mike
  4. Ok, in an effort to move the average down a bit, I'll chime in here with a 28. Mike
  5. Steve, Yeah, me too. If we don't get the shuttle launched by Sat. there's a good chance we'll have to wait till after New Year's -- don't want any Y2K glitches while in orbit, ya know! Now, Steve, don't spill our secrets to everyone, or else I won't hook you up with that new NASA super computer! Rick, Unfortunately, you guessed right - I live in Houston. But, if you're up to some CM PBEM scenarios, I'll be more than happy to play ya. Mike (utkid69@aol.com)
  6. Fionn, Seeing how I work for NASA, I'll see what I can do.
  7. I wholeheartedly agree with the aforementioned regarding the appreciation most of us have for Fionn's hard work and comprehensive, informative posts. I, for one, will be greatly disappointed with Fionn's absence from this forum, but also understand the reason behind his decision. Mike
  8. utkid69@aol.com I'll be around for most of the weekend. I've played all demo scenarios as both sides. BTW, this is my first PBEM so please be patient with me and any "first timer" questions I may have. Mike
  9. Fionn, I agree wholeheartedly. To give one's life for one's country is, in my opinion, the ultimate sacrifice, regardless of who is finally determined to be right or wrong. Mike
  10. BTS, Fionn, I, too, have seen my Hellcats continue to target the Tiger after it was rendered inoperative, first through immobilization then a hit to its gun. I agree with the logic that, assuming my tanks don't know the status of the Tiger, the Americans would keep "knocking at the Tiger's door". My question is: When CM displays "gun hit", does that mean the main gun is inoperative, or that is was just the part of the tank that was hit but not necessarily rendered useless. I would assume that if my tank's knew they damaged the main gun of an immobilized vehicle, they would re-target. Thanks in advance for your reply, Mike [This message has been edited by mike_in_texas (edited 11-07-99).]
  11. First Game: Last Defense vs. Americans (Computer) Lost all three tanks on same turn Hellcats appeared. Second Game: Last Defense vs. Americans (Computer) Needless to say, I was a bit more cautious this time around, and pulled off a minor Axis victory. Third Game: Riesberg vs. Americans (Computer) Won a major Axis victory with heavy casualties including one 88, and holding more than half the town. Most interesting part of this one was how I saved my second 88 from sure destruction: The last remaining US tank -along with a mortar team- had a fix on my location and was in the process of pinning my gun crew and finishing the job, when in a last-ditch desperate attempt, I employed covering smoke (between the tank and my 88) from a nearby friendly mortar. Apparently, this worked, because neither the tank nor the enemy mortar continued to fire at my gun. (Or maybe they assumed I was dead.) Anyway, by the time the smoke cleared the tank was preoccupied with other targets, so I was able to "return the favor", and tack on another kill for my 88!
  12. Doug, Being originally from PA myself, I might be the only other person on this forum who knows what a Nittany Lion is. Go Penn State! [This message has been edited by mike_in_texas (edited 09-29-99).] [This message has been edited by mike_in_texas (edited 09-29-99).]

  14. Thanks Doug and BTS. It's amazing how quickly software becomes "obsolete". Mike
  15. Ok, I'm finally de-cloaking from my lurk mode to ask BTS yet another user-specific question. (Sorry, guys, but I did search this forum before asking, and my limited knowledge of 3D cards, etc. just wasn't allowing me to extrapolate what I can expect of my system.) I have a Compaq Presario 4824 w/ Pentium II at 233Mhz; ATI 3D RAGE PRO v4.0; 32 MBytes RAM; and 6.5 Gigs on the hard drive. How's this sound? BTW, I've been a long-time player/fan of Squad Leader, and have been following the development of this game since it's inception from the demise of CASL (and, yes, I realise CM shall be quite different from SL, as well as more realistic). This game has been what I've been dreaming about ever since the days of Squad Leader (and trying to balance about 10 of those miniature counters all in one hex w/out them falling over ), and so far, from what I've seen, will be absolutely fantastic. I wish the best for you (especially so that you come out with many add-ons, particularly the North African campaign!). Thanks again in advance. Mike H.
