  1. What I protested was this attitude of "Oh yeah, well you're a complete horse's ass...what rock did you dig YOUR information up from?" I could care less. Everyone has different opinions, this is true. I should think that we could all express those without putting the heat on anyone. Funny thing is, I've been slammed for NOT defending an opinion I wasn't really attached to in the first place - I just brought it up to bring it up. Get over it.
  2. OK, close the thread. I do miss the old days when anyone could ask anything and not be slammed for it - these days you ask a question and get slammed for not knowing all of the details - which is why I posted to begin with. I do care for everyone's opinions and I should expect the crappy with the good, so I apologize for this tired rant - and this thread - and my attitude. Later.
  3. "Where did you pick up this gem of information - Stephen Ambrose?" Geez, I post to see how everyone else feels about something that I've been thinking about - I am not a military historian and yeah, I do like Stephen Ambrose - even if you obviously think he is a hack. I don't appreciate having to explain my freaking educational qualifications just to get someone's opinion. Cripes.
  4. Whoa, hang on a second guys. I was only curious about this and didn't propose anything...but why not? I mean, if Axis forces were more order-only oriented and Allied forces were not, then why not give them an advantage that way? Not really a bonus - more of a penalty to Axis forces.
  5. Maybe I am mistaken - I thought I read in an earlier post that when any squad loses it's HQ unit then it performs at a lower level - reaction time, etc are slower. I could be wrong...
  6. OK, it's my understanding that squads fight with less gumption and act more hesitantly if their HQ is wiped out - weren't American troops trained to think on their own (as compared to Axis forces having a strict chain of command). Credit for getting off the beaches at Normandy was given to the fact that NonComs and enlisted pretty much took command and did their thing without the aid of HQ... Anyone?
  7. Trucks run by AI go nowhere and troops dismount...can you alter this by making a truck act similarly to a halftrack that can carry troops? Why do I want this? So I can use trucks in a scenario - its pointless the way the truck works now.
  8. How about it, anyone care to post on how those multiplayer games are progressing? I am curious myself about whether or not its working well, how communication and chain of command is working, and the outcome of the battle/campaign, of course. How about it?
  9. Very sorry to hear of your loss...I lost my grandma a few years ago to Parkinsons - post some of his stories here if you wish (I'm sure all of us would love to hear them). Take care and I'll drop a few prayers your way...
  10. Happy Vets day to all of you out there - I still get wide-eyed and awestruck at the sacrifice and courage of those who have been there...my hat is off to those especially to those Americans who have given so much to allow us the freedoms we have today. My contribution pales in comparison. (USAR '86-'94, Desert Shield/Storm/Provide Comfort)
  11. OK, my last post on this thread and then I'm gone - I know this forum is for CM but heck, its election day! I think a little lenience should be given for this kind of thing... Get out and vote!!
  12. Warren: a vote for Nader is a vote for Gore, which I cannot stomach. Gore is also giving money for all kinds of other programs - where the heck is he going to get the cash? As for all of the other things I mentioned, how do you disagree?
  13. John, we'll know in a few hours. PeterNZer: the presidential choice is very important - the president sets the tone for our country and has everything to do with policies concerning everything.
  14. Voted this morning as well - large turnout here in the Bloody 8th district of Indiana - voted for Bush and the Republican ticket. I voted for an end to the last 8 years of crap in this country. I voted for a strong military, for gun rights, against abortion (I am a strong Roman Catholic), against special interests, for a strong and consistent foreign policy, for the promise of some kind of logical energy program, for less government, for less taxes, for less commitment to our already overly-committed troops, and for a constitutionalist government as opposed to those who feel our constitution is a "living document" and subject to change all the time...I voted the way I did to purge the last 8 years of crap from my system.
  15. Thanks, I'll try that. Man, amazing how the sound adds to the game! Without it the game just isn't as fun - very frustrating!!
  16. Help me someone, alert sounds (window collapsing, trash emptying sounds) all work but when I play combat mission THERE IS NO SOUND. Replaced the sound files in the game. Replaced the sound sprockets for my computer. Did a complete system restore for my G4. Is there a key command in the game for sound that I may have inadvertantly hit at some point??? Hey, I going crazy over here - someone in the know put me out of my misery! Thanks, Steve (buddy)
  17. For all of us not in the MetaCampaign, could you give us a summary of what's been going on, how things have been working and whatnot? Sounds very interesting - seeing Rob1's posts kinda made me curious about your campaign... How about it?
  18. Wild Bill, many thanks! Your maps are great! Thanks also for the help on my old Trois Points map (never "published" because my wife had a baby a few months ago and also because some other guy made a Trois Points map that is about 1000 times better!!!). Although I didn't get my map out there, thanks for helping me with it anyway. You're the man.
  19. Man, this post is all over the place so I will go ahead and post this - heard a news story on Public Radio the other day after work about Bush's comment on bringing home the US forces from the Bosnia region. NPR interviewed two Europeans about Bush and, no big surprise, both of them (I think one guy was from Great Britain, the other from Germany) stated they had no confidence in Bush's presidential abilities. You can understand why they trash-talked Bush in the context of the Bosnian thing because they don't want to have to fill the vacuum caused by our absence... Also like to comment on the Blackhawk Down book - loved it, read it 3 times! It reads like a novel and is very fact-filled on the incident in Mogadishu.
  20. OK - I thought maybe if enemy troops were completely away from convoy it would make a go of it but the trucks just sat there like rocks. Crap, that would've been pretty fun too...
  21. OK, the map I made had an american convoy - 2 tanks, 2 halftracks, a couple of jeeps, an armored car and about 6 trucks. There is a road going from South to North it runs through a pine forest and exits out the North end of the map where I have designated it to be the Allied exit side. I placed two small flags along the road and a big one at the very end of it to the North. I share the opinion of the other fellows that there is some problem with this - just thought of something - I need to try something and then I'll post again!
