  1. Sure at kursk the germans were only 2 to 1, untill the soviets were able to bring in reinforcements, and this is only on armor. The infantry on the other hand, regularly had to go up against 30:1 odds, 50:1, and estimated at the battle of Belgorod, Gross Deutschland division faced infantry odds of over 100:1 . But all this is just an example that if Hitler hadn't invaded Russia (as everyone who has played RISK knows not to do the outcome of the war probably would have been vastly different.
  2. where is this picture of steve firing a mp-44?
  3. I think its ironic that such support was given for the vietnam memorial, which was protested greatly and had about 54,000 americans die, while the ww2 memorial is having to scrounge to get funding and acceptance for a war where over 409,000 americans died. Personally i think the location while might not be perfect, it is important to go ahead and do this memorial while there are a good number of front line serving vetrans from that war still around.
  4. Hehe yea i haven't shown the game to my nephew yet (9 yrs old) but he's getting interested in war games so it should be o.k. Though my sister did flip when i gave him my old copy of duke nukem.... Oh well all's fair in love and war
  5. sure a m1a1 against 5 king tigers it'd prob win, but come on, 20 king tigers, fireing lets say 500m at a m1a1, the m1a1's loader can only reload so fast, and that combined with the m1a1's gunner is gonna miss on some percentage of shots. And even if 9 outta 10 shots deflect or fail to penetrate the m1a1, you still will have some shots that would penetrate. Even if they didn't there's a good chance of at least a track shot.
  6. never seen a site, but have seen couple books on the german order of battle.
  7. It'd be interesting maybe, but 1 m1a1 against 20 king tigers at medium range? Unless it was at extreem long range, where the m1a1 would have a decisive advantage, I'd think that the king tigers would win, sure the m1a1 has superior armor, but unless it was under circumstances that give the m1a1 a complete dominance (night time, long range etc) i'd think the tigers would win.
  8. Ironic isn't it that the british army which was once the pride and joy of all of England is now recruiting from prisons. U.S. army is not quite at that point but they have started recruiting people without high school degrees, and also offering high incentives for people with HS degrees joining.
  9. Steve, just want to say thanks for the update on the modeling, it was really informative, but what I personally would like (not a date) is a update on what is left for you guys to do. Like is the modeling of the new textures the only thing left? Or maybe just give us a check list of things you guys are still working on. I like many of my fellow gamers of course believe in the BTS team, and want you guys to be done when your done, be that in a month or longer, but I personally would ask for just updates on progress P.S. please please don't view this as critisism on your progress, I'm just so anxious to play, that in this case no news is very bad news
  10. As i understand the process, when the game is finished (thus the gold version) it'll take something like 7-14 days for the first production cd's to be done, so like if the game is finished on say tomarrow the 15th, the actual game could in fact not be shipped untill like the 30th. So the gold version of the demo could keep you in awe untill the cd burning is completed. And hopefully there will be like 2 or 3 scenarios in the demo
  11. Schrodi i don't understand your reference to Andrey Sakharov. It'd make as much sense to say "stupid like Robert Oppenheimer" it doesn't make sense.
  12. will the gold demo be the same scenario's as the beta demo? same tanks etc etc?
  13. NOOOOO! mike doesn't know what he's talkin about! GO GOLD NOW!
  14. oh i sure hope so, that'd be a very cool feature. Especially if you had like a 5 min period where there was horrible fighting going on
  15. Ok sports fans, its now 18 days to the big y2k, so steve you guys have little over 2 weeks left, are you guys still on track? A post a week ago i think said you had a few weeks of tweaking left, are you close enough to tell us at least pre or post?
  16. yup myself 2 days (though they were sat and sunday, so probably 3 or 4 weekdays). But i'm still playing the hell outta the demo, playing around with zooks right now finding the best ambushes etc etc. Also testing the rocoche theory (being that a ricoche can destroy another vehicle) have done it on last defense, with a tiger on the road, with the halftracks all centered around teh front of it, stugs to the side asses facing the m18's, done it over 50 tries and no kills so far from ricoches
  17. Hehehe Chance encounter, i'm playing the germans, PBEM game, by the 2nd (or 3rd) turn i have like 5 squads in the big church, by 4th or 5th turn i have couple MG's in there too, he brings 3 shermans to bear on that church, it collapses and only 6 men walk away from it, from 5 squads and 2 mg's. Can you say "don't bunch your troops up"?
  18. Bought the game "half-life: opposing force" was interesting, had some fun playing it, but would still save my game, exit, and check my email, for PBEM's, and to see if by chance BTS has released CM And i realized when i finished that game that, everything I do for fun on my puter, be it new games or whatever, is just a distraction to keep me occupied till CM is released
  19. How do the close range AP (ANTI PERSONEL)bomblet motar things work on the tanks, what are the conditions in which they will use them? I've had a stug run up to a platoon and i've seen the thing fire in front of the stug, exploding ontop of the soldier, but 5 other turns nothing with as far as i could tell the same criteria. and thats AP (anti personel for those who don't know what i mean)
  20. Ok how do the AP round on the tanks work? I've got a setup that has tanks rolling over allied soldiers, tried it with stugs and the tiger, but the only one that will fire his ap round is one stug, but not every time. Also in the final version will you be able to "squish" the enemy soldiers? i.e. stories of russian t-34's which would run over german foxholes then pivot on them squishing the occupants.
  21. Yea powells rocks, hehe bookstore the size of a square city block, has a military section the size of most public libraries children book section. A book i'm reading right now is probably the best 1st person book on ww2 infantry warfare i've ever read. Its from a German soldiers perspective on the eastern front starting in the fall of 1943. The Forgotten Soldier Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to "know what it was like" he's very graphic, and a lot of emotion was obviously put into this book. After this one i'm gonna read Steel Inferno Which is about the 1st SS panzer division on the western front, sounds good.
  22. Germany was the only country to enter the war with a standard machinegun that could be used as either a light or a heavy machinegun. By using the heavy mantelet the MG34 could fire for longer periods, without going off target, and could fire farther. The light version could only fire for short bursts and was basically an assault weapon for advancing troops. The MG34 also had the ability to be aimed indirectly as well. In this method, telescopic sights would be used from concealed positions to not only protect the gun crew, but also to lob bullets over ones own troops and to hit the enemy. At a range of 2000 meters the bullets would reach a zenith of 42 meters in the middle of its trajectory. The MG42 was marginally lighter, fired faster, had an easy to remove barrel (for when the gun barrel overheated), and most importantly, was much more cost effective and easy to produce than the MG34 being that it was a stamp produced gun, similar to the process in which the mp40 was made. The MG42 is still used today, with minor modifications, and is also nearly identical to the current M60 used by the American armed forces.
  23. Yea how about this, Steve you send us whatever version of CM and umm lets determine if it can be transfered over hehe Take away my liberty, just give me the game! btw: PaK man, i like this too
  24. My idea is this, All's fair in love and war period if the game lets you do it, so be it.
