  1. M-player also supports CC4. Unfortuantely not many people are playing the campaigns becasue of a save game bug which erases a players saved campaign file after a few turns. A patch is coming out for this is a week or so. I would hold onto your horses till it comes out, unless you want to 'practice' against the AI????...
  2. Thanks a lot Fionn!! - That was mostly what I was looking for! The reason is that we (over at the CC forum) are trying to Identify the unit marking (and thus the unit) of the men shown in this picture: The only info we have on it is this: Taken in Northern Europe sometime between 44-45. The above film was captured by the U.S 9th Armd Div - with the film still in the camera, so it must have been recent. This is obviously a summer or early fall photo, so most possibly it belongs to some German Formations which was engaged by the 9th Armoured in the late summer or early fall of 1944. We were pretty sure that the unit markings were that of the 211 I.D. Div - the horse -, but it is hard to tell since it seems to be only partly in view. Thanks for your help!
  3. I know this is not CM related in the least, so sorry in advance. I just have a question for Fionn since his 'World of War' site seems to be down. I was wondering if you could direct me to a site (or post it if you have the info) which would include the German Order of Battle for the West (France/Germany) From D-Day to May 45. What I am specifically looking for is the 211 I.D. division and if it formed a part of OB West at any time during the above time period. I know it fought it Russia for quite a bit. Anyway, thanks a lot!!!!
  4. I personally feel that CC4 is better than CC2. I've been playing the CC series since CC2 - sadly I was never able to get my hands on CC1. And honestly right now, as much as i like CC2, I can't think of a single reason of why it is better than CC4. If the game hasn't improved that much, it at least there have been improvements. CC3 I admit, the fact that the AI always bought armour had a big damping effect on the game. I solved this problem by editing the data files and eliminating all the tanks from the game - no more wurlies eitheir!!!! Anyway, airstrikes only become availiable when the weather is 'clear'. You can either choose historical or random weather.
  5. I might get shot for this, but what the hell, this is a 'free' forum right? As far as single player shooters go nothing still beats doom2! I can still remember the first time I bought the game (way back when I was 14 was it?). It had me stuck to the computer screen playing for week after week (usually in the middle of the night )! Even now, if I don't like the way my life is going, I just crank out the ole game and kill me some imps.... CM replay isn't too bad. Of course playing against the AI on the same map does tend to limit replay value anyway. Considering that now I have learnt to beat all the demo senarios without losing a single tank/inf squad, I am waitng for the game and esp. the senario editor to come out!!!
  6. The way I see Charging in a tank is rather different from charging on a horse... . The Tank divisions of this century are designed to fill the role that the calvery had in the previous ones (Heavy force, fast at a point equals maximum effect). Added to this Tanks have the advantge of surving as Moblie pillboxes for supportting infantry missions, something that calvery were not. Anyway, to return to how inferior british tanks were to Germans, Some time ago I made a Senario in TOAW I where I had a divison of British Tanks (about 400 + cromwells) attack a beffed up Pz Regt. (About 55 Tigers, 20 MK IV's). No infantry or air support on either side. The end result was that the Brits lost some 320 + tanks for just 35 Tigers and 17 Mk IV's. I re-did the battle this time with the Germans attcking the British. The Brits did better, taking about 100 Tank loses for 20 Tigers and 10 Mk IV's. I dodn't know how well TOAW models actual tank combat, but interesting results nonetheless.
  7. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but i've been playing the beta demo senario for over a month now and except for the first time, I have never lost 'the last defense' playing Germans (vs. the AI). My simple solution to this is to those nasty Hellcats is simply to leave my Tiger where it is, unbuttoned. Usually I move my Inf. Sqauds down the center towards the Stone building near the road supported by one Stug. On the Left I move my Halftraks, the motorized Inf. and one Stug. When the Hellcats appear, I have one Stug in the centre of the road (near the stone building), my other stug on the left dirt road and my Tiger where it is. The end result is that that the Tiger kills all three hellcats in quick succession while thier fire is divided between it, my stug in the center and while thier flank is under fire from the stug in the left. I usually lose only one Stug, sometimes 2, but in the 7-8 times i have used this strat, I have never lost the Tiger. Once all the hellcats are down, I move all forces up to the bridge (with the Tiger), batter my way through and the AI surrenders. Not saying that I am a great tactician or anything, It just feels rather strange to win this away.
  8. Jesus Rommel! Ur Lucky! an 18 page senior project. Mine has to be at least 80 pages!!! Hell, even my final term papers end up being 14-16 pages sometimes
  9. A good RTS game which has rotational camera views, excelent maps and fairly realistic combat is Sid Meyers Antiem (sp). Neither does it have a mini-map (though it does have a 'battle overview' map. It is by no means a click-fest. CM can go Real-Time and still give players an exteremly realistic game, with enough time to manage/order all their units comfortably. However I think BTS has done a great job with the game sofar. Making a game CM into a real-time game would probaly require rather high system requirements too. All in all a good idea, but not necessary to make it a better game.
  10. Yes and No Howard. After Crete (and the horrible casualities suffered there), German Fallschirmjager divisions were delpoyed mainly as regular infantry divisions. There high training and excellent weapons made them very effective (example: Mt. Casino). As the war progressed, and the German army was strapped for replacements, surplus luftwaffe personal (ground crews, etc) were drafted into Luftwaffe Feild divisions. They were well equppied, but lacked training. While the loss of air supremacy by the Luftwaffe was reason why these troops were incorporated into the army, Lack of manpower replacements and the personal ambitions of Goering (who was jealous of the SS) were equally important reasons why these troops were employed as infantry. The HG division was formed from a mix of luftwaffe personal and Fallschirmjager troops.
