  1. This shouldn't be too much to ask. I know they are still busy but this is a simple request that should take a few minutes at most. If they can't provide this type of support then they should hire a temp person to handle these requests.
  2. Steve, It's obvious that something has gone wrong with my order. I ordered last year, my credit card was charged June 15, but I still don't have CM. I don't care who made the mistake- me, BTS, or the USPS - I just want it corrected as quickly as possible so that I can get my fix. (wargaming is a drug afterall isn't it?) I'm requesting that someone check the mailing address that you have for me to verify that it is correct. It would be very nice if BTS had a number to call for these problems, even if the customers pay for the call. After all, your entire sales are via mail. I would think that you would want all mail deliveries to go as smoothly as possible. thanks, Jeff Roland jroland2@home.com
  3. "everybody is acting like a bunch of beenie baby collectors.me!me!me!now!now!now!go buy some imported and settle down.low morale never won a war." All I'm asking is for some sort of support line where people that ordered a LONG time ago but still havn't received their game can double check their order. It is quite possible that I or BTS gave the wrong address and I'd like to verifiy this so I can receive my game as quickly as possible. This has nothing to do with 'me me me, now now now' - this has to do with a respectable software company offering a descent way to check our orders. BTS has opted to bypass a publisher for their game who would normally handle most customer support problems. Therefore they really need to provide some phone line (I dont care if I have to pay for the call) to at least check orders and maybe even technical support.
  4. Credit Card charged on the 15th (I've already received the bill in the mail which is dated 6-20-2000), yet no CM has been delivered. Supposing that my copy didn't ship until 2 days after it was charged, that means that I should have received it on the 21st or 22nd at the latest. I preordered last Fall, so I should have been among the earlier crowd to get a copy. Steve, you really need to set up some sort of support line or email for people who havn't received their copy yet. There ARE such things as mistakes and the sooner they're corrected the happier we will be.
  5. Steve, I know you said that we should give it until Tuesday, but this is getting a bit much. I odered last fall, probably in October and as of today, Friday 6-23, It hasn't come in the mail. Even if mine wasn't mailed until tuesday, then it should have been here today. Is there anyway I can double check my order status - verify the shipping address etc... thanks Jeff Roland
  6. Europe??? Hell, I havn't even received it here in New Orleans and I pre-ordered back in October!
  7. Thanks for the explanation, Steve. It makes me feel a lot better.
  8. Now Im just getting downright PISSED!!! BTS, is there any reason why I shouldn't have gotten the friggin game yet? I pre-ordered back in the fall. What can I do to check on my order?
  9. I'm in New Orleans and I pre-ordered back in October or something like that. I thought for sure I'd get it yesterday but no such luck. Is it crawfish season yet? Geaux Tigers! National Champions.... again!
  10. Well, I live in a major city and I ordered last fall BUT still dont have the game!!! ahhhhhh!!!!! Frustration at the most!!!! hmmm, did I use enough exclamation points? well, I guess a few more wont hurt!!!!
  11. You can fit about 40 armed men into a Higgins landing craft.
  12. seems like a few of us at least should be getting some in.
  13. To put it in real world numbers (not 'figures') - a typical Batallion in WWII will have anywhere from 500 to 800 men including all support and HQ personell. The size really depends on the type of batallion. Regular US infantry will have over 700 but an engineer batallion may only have over 500 or something like that.
  14. Steve, who's your printer? I may just have to give them a little motivational call this weekend explaining how hundreds of irate CM players will be hounding them for the next several months if the manuals are not delivered on time.
  15. Well, I certainly wont mind if you only ship me the CD first - Heck, I'll even pay for the extra labor and shipping.
  16. Ugghh, If anything they need more species. Shrubs, Poplars, Oaks, other native European species. But hardware limitations cut down on the number of species and density. If it really bothers you, Shift T will reduce the number of trees you see, thereby reducing the number of species.
  17. Unfortunately, I have to work today and will miss the parade and all of the aircraft that will do fly-byes over the downtown area. It should be an awesome show.
  18. Has anyone seen the latest Computer Gaming World? There's a nice small write-up about CM on page 128. Only one problem, they used the wrong screen shots!!! Or maybe the guys at Battlefront decided at the last minute to change CM into some sort of Battletech real time strategy game.
  19. Scott, No, I think you've missed my point. First off, let me clear a misconception you have about me. I don't play real time strategy games(at least not since Warcraft II). I play wargames and simulations and a few odds and ends like Civilization. So please don't lump me in with 'real time' players. "What is "real" about A SINGLE person (literally) controlling the second to second movement, firing, coordination and orders for 180 men (or more) in a 'real time' game? " This statement proves that you're missing the point youself. Turn based games such Steel Panthers allow second to second movement, firing, coordination and orders for HUNDREDS of men. A Steel Panthers player can move a tank hex by hex and give precise firing orders. This actually makes turn based games LESS realistic because they let you have this kind of contol over ALL your units. What Captain or Major is going to have the time to babysit all his tanks and infantry that much? NONE If you were to give this much attention to a unit in Close Combat, you will pay for it with neglection of your other unis. This is a very realisic battlefield condition. "No SINGLE person in real life would ever be expected to do 1/10th what is called on them to do in most 'real-time' games" Uh.. no single person in real life would ever be expected to do 1/20th what is called on them to do in most turn based games. Example: it takes me exactly 1 minute of 'real time' and a few mouse clicks to play 1 minute of Close Combat time. BUT, it takes me anywhere from 10-20 minutes of 'real time' to give and execute orders for 1 minute of a Steel Panthers turn.(yes I know the scale is larger, but you understand my point) Turn based games such as Steel Panthers have managed to give a battalion commander 10-20 more minutes to command his troops. This is fine for unrealistic games such as chess but for battlefield simulation, this pretty much ruins quick tactical decision making. You seem to be making the mistake that so many others are making: you're putting Close Combat in the same class of games as Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, etc. They're not anywhere close. But now we don't need to worry about these classes because we have a far superior class with Combat Mission: the real time/turn based hybrid - this allows advantages of both real time and turn based play. "If 'real time' were even marginally real then it would only take a single officer to control an entire company." uhh... real time is real, that's why its called real time. "(more aptly called 'time pressure' because you can only give order to one unit at a time another VERY unrealistic thing about 'real time' games btw)" you're kidding right? CC1 and CC2 didn't have multiple unit orders but every other game that's been done in real time does. Maybe you just need to actually play a real time game before you start bashing them.
  20. >'Real time' will never be "real" if one >person is asked to control more than half >dozen units. you've got to be kidding me! Are you telling me that 7+ units is too many to control??? Christ man, you've got to get off those valium and get up to the normal speed of life. look, I'm not saying that Close Combat was the best game ever because of its real time aspect, but it had the perfect scale (15 units) for the size of maps that you played on. If you can't control 15 units at that scale then you've got some serious mental or physical disabilities.
  21. "IMO the biggest flaw of real-time clickfests like CC is the excessive span of control they foist on the player." Why on earth do you guys think that Close Combat is a click fest??? You only have 15 units to command and the maps are relatively small - Do you mean to tell me that you can't control a lousy 15 units in real time? hmm, Age of empires (100+ units) or Close Combat (15 units max.): there's no comparison between the two. Plus the fact that you can slow the action down to a snails pace if needed. I refuse to believe that any of us have lost a Close Combat game due to a "click fest" - that's just obsurd. It's more likely that your attacker just launch a well coordinated quick assault that caught you off gaurd.
  22. "The best thing about turn-based games has always been the time you are given to think about your next moves without the problem of getting interupted " Yes, but this isn't exactly realistic, is it? Battlefield commanders don't have all day to make decisions. A good commander can make important decisions quickly, this is where real time shines. Turn based games that allow the commander to take as long as he needs to give orders to units is TOTALLY unrealistic. Close Combat was excellent because it gave the players a sense of "being overrun" by an aggressive attacker. It gave a player a sense of "total loss of control" over his units, something common in combat from what I've read. Yet you never felt you were losing due to a clicking duel because you only had 14 or 15 units max. Combat Mission allows the best of both worlds: time to decide what to order to your troops AND loss of control when a previously unseen Tiger suddenly takes out 3 of your Shermans in less than a minute.
