  1. A note for the unwashed masses: The playback file allows you to replay individual turns or the entire game turn by turn or continuously, including for single player and MP player games (the host is keeper of that file, and can upload/share with others).

Sweeeeet! :) This is going to be so awesome!

  2. I'd like to get something out to people "soon", but I can't really define what "soon" means. I can tell you that it won't be this month. I can also say that one of the problems I'm dealing with right now is a networking problem....

Sorry to hear about that, Brit. From what I read on that blog it seems like a tough nut to crack. Perhaps a stand-alone demo with just singleplayer mode would be possible in the mean time? ;)

  3. Right guys im new and just so that i am clear..will there be a CMx2 Normandy game? When will it be released and is there any screenshots/website/features page etc..

Indeed there will. Current release date is as always "when it's done", but hopefully during 2009. :) You can find WineCape's most excellent summary here:

ps can someone also point to a description or tell me of the differences between the two engines CMx1 & CMx2

You really should download the CM:SF demo and try, but from the top of my head; 1 to 1 representation for soldiers, much more detailed and deformable terrain, real-time & WEGO option, dynamic lighting, no random map generator, no cherry-picking forces for quick-battles, just to mention a few.

  4. ...(It's actually very cool setting up the game to have AIs play against each other with no human players involved; this isn't something players will be able to do, but it's very nice for testing.)...

Aaaargh! Please, PLEASE make this option available for players as well! I love this feature, but it's so seldom available these days. It's invaluable for testing custome made maps and scenarios in these types of games! Pretty please, with sugar on top? :)

  5. It's a fairly popular look in the region. I'm being serious.

If you are refering to Iran and/or Iraq, then you may well be correct. I'm not well versed in facial hair fashion there.

A friend of mine just finished a 12 month tour as an UN observer on the Syrian/Israeli border, and he comented after seeing CMSF that he hardly ever saw mustaches or beards on males in Syria (he and his family lived in Damaskus). He hasn't said anything about facial hair on Syrian females though, and I have refrained from asking as we don't see them in CMSF... ;)

  6. ...With all this talk about convoys and micro-management the past few days, I was beginning to think the way to handle this would be to automatically create freighters (maybe players would or wouldn't need to build them explicitly). The freighters would just "do their own thing" - moving between islands, resupplying them with some sort of materials (maybe the exact nature of the freight would be opaque to the players). Enemies could destroy these freighters, and there would be various penalties - for example, if you have an island with several cities, and enemy submarines keep sinking freighters moving to that island, then those cities would begin to suffer some penalties, as if they were experiencing shortages. I don't know. At least that system wouldn't require any input from the user. They wouldn't even need to give orders to the freighters. But, players would still need to keep their shipping lanes clear of enemy units (ships, submarines, aircraft). I suppose a similar system could be used with roads. Any thoughts?

I like this idea, I like it a lot! You make strategic protection/interdiction important while keeping the user input/management at a minimum. If you create the code for handling this at sea, I guess it would be possible to extend this to ground and possible air as well?

  7. ... Hopefully it can be played sp without the server. That would be a killer for me.

    From the BF EoS webpage:

"... You can play solo against one or multiple computer opponents of varying skill levels, or you can play with up to 20 human players on the same map, ..."

"... Multiplayer games can only be played while connected ..."

I choose to assume that this mean you don't have to be connected to play solo. :)

Edit: Never mind! Didn't spot Moon confirming this in the video thread. ;)
