  1. Hmmm, how does the armor compare between the M3 and the Kfz 251? I have heard many places that the Mg 42 was the finest machine-gun of the war... but here it appears as though Ma Deuce has a clear advantage, at least in terms of penetrating power... this makes a certain amount of sense actually when you realize how big the 50 cal shot is... my question is, if the M2 was really that much more potent, why do people consider the mg42 the better gun? was it rof? I can understand that a higher ROF would mean more potent Anti infantry Gun... so when we compare the M2 to the Mg42 are we looking at a potent anti-armor vs. a potent anti-infantry gun, or am I just way off the mark here? sorry, a little confused.... -EridanMan
  2. your telling me I don't get any A-10 support??? Man... life blows sometimes (You want a plane that can shrug off AA fire while punishing ur enemy beyond belief... Hell, just give me the A-10's chin-gun on a tank, that would be fun too ) -EridanMan
  3. rich... I hate to tell you, but there is no way that your moniter fixed the problem... There is no way that the monitor wouldn't have "processed the signal fast enough"... the monitor simply doesn't process the signal at all. there are many different things and settings that might have changed, maybe because of driver updates from a different program, maybe because everything just decided to start working (I've definately seen windows PC's do that)... But the monitor was not the cause... quite frankly the computer doesn't even know/care if the monitor is there... Its a pointless discussion anyway though, at least you can play now, right? (now if only this damn ATI Rage Mobile could play CM, I would REALLY be happy).... -EridanMan [This message has been edited by Eridani (edited 03-19-2000).]
  4. Hmm Fionn.. I am undefeated as Americans... I could take you aar battle? -EridanMan
  5. your monitor has nothing to do with they system freezing... for the most part monitors are little more than dumb CRTs... 99% of the signal processing is done by your video card (the other 1% is things like margin, pin cushon, and other asthetics)... Your video card for the most part doesn't care what its feeding... There is no reverse feedback (i.e, the signal goes from system to monitor, never in reverse)... the video card simply assumes that the monitor is working and capable of displaying whatever signal it send out... Note - as far as I know this is the case for both crt's and Lcds... but I have yet to deal with many flatscreens so I'm not sure... -EridanMan [This message has been edited by Eridani (edited 03-17-2000).]
  6. Hehe, no forcing you to bow down... just offering condolences <g> Serious question though... A feature which I REALLY have been lookin for is different color ground textures for scattered trees (same as grass, maybe a little different), woods, heavy woods, Ect... it would be far easier to determine between the woods types visually that way... Some screen shots of the full beta I've seen appear to have this, others dont... leaving me rather confused... Do all woods have the same color base, or does it differ based on the type of wood (which I think would be far more realistic, not to mention convienient... -EridanMan [This message has been edited by Eridani (edited 03-17-2000).]
  7. I am assuming that the bunker is treated just like any other building except for the fact that it gives great cover from incoming/LOS... am I correct? -EridanMan (sorry, I not o/t)
  8. Bill- Yeah... They were also not available at Microcenter for another 2 months and were an addition grand over this new toy. Plus the screens on the machines that they did have in didn't even come close to this beauty... you really need to see it btw, why arn't you on icq anymore? -EridanMan
  9. I love the new buildings... that is one things that has always kinda bugged me about the Demo...the people in realistic scaling are too big for the building textures... yours look far more realistic. I don't know about the new sun personally, especially if there is more than one in the game... I would just let us assume that it is high noon and add nice clouds or something.... just my humble opinion... great job BTW, I can't wait to d/l your new textures -EridanMan
  10. Without hardware accelleration the game becomes unplayable slow, but it works... I downloaded the latest drivers from Dell, released 2/25... no luck though (argh, probably means I'm going to have to wait a while for another update...) GOD I hope that the full game works on this machine... I have so much free time at school... I was really hoping to get a chance to catch up on all of my pbem games... I have a tnt2 on my desktop system... It runs great... unfortunately when it came to laptops I had two choices- A- No 3d accelleration or B- Ati Rage Mobile... Quick question- does anyone have a rage mobile LT with CM that WORKS? or is it just a Dell issue (If so, I would SERIOSLY consider returning this Dell for a micron)... oh well... thanks for the input so far. -EridanMan
  11. Thanks for the reply... I'll try that... BTS- have you heard about this??? I really hope that its not a problem in the full game. thanks again -EridanMan
  12. Hey all- Well... I just got a new toy... a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 5000)... I was sitting here having fun with it when I went to load the CM demo... The game works fine except for one "minor" error... there is no cursor. There is during the menu sections of the game, but as soon as the actual game starts (3d arena) the cursor dissapears (reappearing occasionally for an instant before dissapearing again)... The game remains fully functional, save for the fact that I can't see what I am pointing at (rather annoying actually)... I was wondering if there were any known issues like this. I did a search and I didn't find anything else posted. I originially wondered if the errors were caused by the touch-pad software, but I removed it and it didn't help. The machines specs are as follows Dell Inspiron 5000 PIII 500mhz 64 megs ram ATI rage pro mobile (Lt) w/8 megs sgram 15" LCD display *BIG GRIN* 6 gig HD... I'm running win 98 with DirectX 7.0 installed. This is very aggravating... I was really looking forward to being able to play CM on this new toy... oh well. Any advice/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.... Or at least an assurance that everything will work in the final game thanks in advance -EridanMan
  13. Now you really need to show us what 14 inch naval guns could do to that in the next picture set up like 3 observers to fire into the middle of town and let us see what's left (yes I like the big guns) -EridanMan
  14. I almost say that last one is a little to dark-green... I guess psychologically I see blue I think water... I start to loose that connection with the greens and browns added... I definately wouldn't make it any darker just my .02 worth... -EridanMan
  15. Capt... CHILL OUT. >Just wondering if BTS has selected their >faces they want and programmed them into the >game as of yet. They'll get it done when they get it done... you gotta have PATIENCE.... Bugging Steve and Charles isn't going to help anything, other than piss them off. >we'll get going. I HOPE you didn't mean to type "well get going"... I pray your not THAT disrespectful. -EridanMan... who still doesn't get those stupid quotes (don't mind me, I'm slow , I know its /quote or something like that)
  16. This is definately a known bug... I think it was reported on here just a few days/week ago, but I'm not sure. Either way, if the game locks when you hit go, all you need to do is hit ESC. The game will quit but your pbem turn will be fine to send of as normal. Trust me on this. Right now I am running 6 pbem games and the ALL freeze when I hit go. -EridanMan
  17. Just had to keep this thread alive... I propose we keep this thread alive until CM ships... For no reason what so-ever other than a- we're bored and b- its here sorry -EridanMan
  18. Ok, I'm going to nip this in the bud right now... *NO ONE REPLY TO THIS* it isn't even worth it... PLEASE lets not start another flame war because of some fools immaturity... -EridanMan
  19. CCJ- I'm well aware of the old k6's pathetic FPU and I'm already planning to upgrade... (1ghz Athlon ) I was just wondering if I'd be able to use to smoke cool smoke before I did so. Dschug- that was my thinking as well... I hope ur right. -EridanMan
  20. Hey- I was wondering- The transparency effect on the new smoke- I understand that the computers slows down when its on. My question, however, is what causes that slowdown. Is it overburdening of the CPU or the processor on you 3d card (tnt2 in my case). The reason I ask is because I run a reletively slow CPU (350mhz k6) with my TNT. The slowish CPU slows frame rates and doesn't at all take full advantage of my Video card. If the transparency calls slow CPU calculations it will probably slow the game even further (to near unplayable levels), and I wont be able to use them if they are VC processor dependant, then there is a good chance my hit to real-world performance will be insignificant at best. I'd love to know if my logic is completely flawed -EridanMan
  21. PC - Expandability/Customizability Mac - Reliability/Stability That is the whole platform wars in a nutshell. Yes there are exceptions, yes you CAN expand a Mac, yes you CAN have a stable PC yada yada... but in terms of GENERAL TRENDS... the whole stupid arguement comes down to the above. That would make it a matter of personal preference... and not worth bickering about sorry, had to chime in -EridanMan
  22. Vram is primarely important when considering what size textures the card can display... (more vram means bigger and therefore finer textures and better image quality) If you are running windows 98, the fact that the drop between 128 to 64 megs of ram didn't effect anything is of no surprise, windows 98 can't utilize more than 64 megs of ram. In generam my understanding has been that AGP is far from being fully utilized by computer systems so far. Especially since most high-clocked video cards dump everything into their local vram instead of having to worry about the high memory-latency of using main system memory(similar to cache on the CPU). Therefore moving to a high-speed video chip-set with more RAM should definately benefit system performance, despite the fact that its pci. my only question is do they make high-end PCI cards now... this could be ur biggest problem. forgive me if my information is a little out of date... I've been out of the business for 4-5 months. -EridanMan
  23. Yobobo- I can't see any way you could partition it into 3 catagories... that's the problem... you just simply couldn't and still keep it at all truly representative of the General's skill. doesn't matter how you partition it. -EridanMan
  24. did he send you someone elses turn? I've had that happen a few times -Eridani
