  1. I have only played against the computer as Germans in VoT. The first game, I barly managed a minor victory, the second a Technical victory. My sugestion ATTACK. I also hold back(hide)the IG until the Panther shows up.
  2. All I can say is that>>>It is a good thing my work computer does not have the capibility to run CM. But I still spend wayyyyy to much time at Battlefront and CMHQ during "work hours"
  3. While fighting Allied troops in the Tall Pines to left in VoT. The Allies Call in artilery. For two rounds 81mm moters rain mostly on ALLIED TROOPS In a different game As Germs again in Vot The US is kicking my butt... Until the Panther shows up. The Panther totally saves the day. Taking out Three Shermans and ten infantry.
  4. I have to chime in on the Targeting Retargeting issue. I managed to keep my IG alive for 2 whole turns, fat lot of good it did me. It fired only ONE shot. It spent the rest of the time moving from target to target. And what is this deep seeded desire of the AI to kill Arty spotters. A whole US platoon was sitting exposed on a hill in LOS did my Panther want to shoot them (even though I targeted them) heck no it spent is valuable time try to kill that Arty spotter. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  5. To Joe Shaw: HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!! I dont understand why beating Fionn is such a big deal, he has never claimed or bragged about being the best wargamer just a avid one. In VoT the Germans are underpowered. I walked all over them without even trying hard. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  6. Computer Games Online has a blub about the demo. These poeple have faithfully followed the progress of CM since '98. Expect them to do more in the near future. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  7. Off topic, after a three month break, I would like to play CM again. Looking for a foe with moderate experiance. I would like to play Chance Encounter as US. Darstand@home.com
  8. Davedial: Games like CM are why the PC Game market will never die. I don't like consol games, never have. Because there are no games like MOO, MOO2, Fallout, Combat Mission, StarCraft, and SMAC. Until somebody in the consol market starts making games that require thought instead of twich reflexes The PC game Market is alive and well......
  9. CC V ---Proof that Cr*p never dies, it is just recycled, wrapped in plastic, and sold again.
  10. Greatings, I am 2ndLT Darstand of the JFL. Open games are a terrible way to play. That generally where you have a lack of teamwork and the hording of weapons. Regiment games are the superior way to go. Teamwork and Sharing of weps is the only way to win. I have been playing off and on for months. And my only complaints are Lag and the insidious button Lag (if you play you know what I am talking about) I have a cable modem now so that takes care of the lag, but that dang button lag is still a very annoying problem. My advice Join a Reg thats been around for awhile and plays alot of games. Like the JFL.
  11. I prefer the US. The US army of the time seems to use my favorite military maxim. The KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid. I don't like the fact that the germans have half a million different squad types. I like the simplicity of the US squad. I am also fond of its size. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  12. Darstand SGT in the JFL Reporting as ordered Sir..... Lot of fun. Skill and luck required to be truly good. Faults.... can be laggy. and the random system of who is required to surive can be a little frustrating. A good way to waste time and it is absolutly free (you pay for it by clicking on ads)
  13. I got a good one for you. I am playing 007 on the Riesburg scenerio. On turn 5 my sniper shot at a Sherman tank and immobilized it! Guess I got the driver, it buttoned up and has stayed that way ever since. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  14. CM can only be bought online from Battlefront.com ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  15. The creation of computer games are an Art not a science. There are so many variable for game creation. The sound and graphics is the easy part. Figuring out WHAT to make is the hard part; there is a wide rage of interests to appeal to. Many of us here don't like Quake. But, does that mean it isn't a good game? I never liked Total Annihilation but apparently over a million other people did. So once again we are dealing with opinions and personal preferences. CM is the FIRST war game I have ever liked. Before CM I was a big fan of Starcraft, I have literally played over a 1,000 hours of it before putting it away. How many on this board can't stand the game or have never played it, but it is on my list of all time favorite games. Also on this list is Master of Orion, Civilization II, Master of Orion II. So when you speak of a lack of quality games, maybe you just need to expand your horizons just a little bit. Dar I agree with you 100%. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  16. After a hard long struggle. I and Akdirat finshed a PBEM. It was The Last Defence. I was germans vs The US the final score. Germans 66: 62 casualtie (17KIA) 5 vehicles lost (Tiger, 2 StugIII, 2 Halftraks)All victory locations captured. Allied 34: 153 casualties (48KIA) 3 vehicles lost. Specail note Aikdorat recieved a few more casualties due to the desire of seeing the effects of a 105mm barrage.
  17. That was alot of fun. I rolled over those poor Germans like they were not even there. My first try at the scenerio Total Victory. 86 US vs 14 Germans Points Germans 214 lost the rest captured (surrendered turn 26) 3 Vehicles KO. US (me!) 44 men lost 1 vehicle KO Most interresting part. Sherman shoots StugIII from 68 meters away. Round richocets off the Front Turret. 18. The very first time I played the Riesberg scenario. I played as Germans it was only my second game of CM. I used mostly the preset positions; I moved the HVY SMG squad to the forward most house and the SMG squad to the house right next to it. I totally destroyed the American Offensive. I killed 2 tanks in the first 2 turns and by turn 5 they were all gone. The US pushed hard up the middle next to the road (on the left by the US perspective) well when the game was over; it was Total Victory for me. I held all victory locations. That one HVY SMG squad in the forward most house had 3 men left and had inflicted 28 casualties! Casualties US---------------------------------Germans 216 men lost---------------------56 men lost 4 vehicles lost----------------------2 guns lost Now just recently, I played again as Germans same scenario. By turn 18 I surrendered. I had no fighting forces left. What happened? One tank managed to stay alive and it totally turned the tide of battle. Combined with my stubbornness to retreat from the front line of houses. So remember don't get too cocky. Some stupid mistakes and/or some bad luck and the AI will eat your lunch. Casualties-----Allied Minor victory US---------------------------------Germans 135 men lost---------------------136? men lost 3 vehicles lost-----------------------2 guns lost --------------------------------------44 men captured ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand [This message has been edited by Darstand (edited 11-15-99).]
  19. Not trying to be a smarta** but don't put any men directly in front of the tank. When I play TLD, as Germans, I place all my men parallel to each other. Sometimes I even start with my Motorized infantry disembarked (gasp!). Does anyone actually ever use the main road? When playing CM as well as real life it pays to think outside the box. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  20. PF-100 Vs Sherman Frontal armor. Can a PF-100 damage a Sherman from the front? Do I need to use a special key to use PF's? I ask because I had a squad pop up 28 meters directly in front of the Sherman (and I targeted it as well), and the wacky Germs decided to pivot and fire at some infantry 40 meters away. Needless to say by the end of the turn that squad was dead. Am I going to have to rush The Sherman for a flank shot? ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  21. I use my HT's like mobile machine gun nests. Using them to support infantry assaults, I tend to keep them back away from the enemy no closer than 200 meters. When they run out of ammo I move them off the battlefield. I have used this tactic very effectively without losing 1 HT vs the comp or Humans. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  22. I noticed that also, and then I noticed that if I put them in any kind of cover they seem to "hide" themselves. More disturbing is the fact that Zoka teams don't sneak. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  23. I played only against the AI. Once on both side. Total Victory for me both times. They Key for both sides is to take out the big guns. The Tanks or AT guns got to go first. As Germans I hid my troops until they were VERY close. I let my AT guns fire at will. As Americans I used the Inf. to flush out the AT guns. Hiding my tanks behind trees until they showed themselves. Then hunted very carfully. I did not lose 1 tank (except one was immobilized) Good Luck and good hunting!
  24. Ok the "Cheesy, lame and gamey" part was perhaps juvenile. I retract the statement. However I will still stand by "Also, when you lose men they are not necessarily dead. Just combat ineffective. At the end of a scenario the status display will tell you how many men you lost and how many where actually KIA. In a campaign setting; men that are not KIA or Captured have a chance to return to service." Mabey we could have a "Man Lost" label as a compromise. That way people who want info can have it and those of us who like it just the way it is can leave the labels off" a nice win-win situation. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
  25. I have ICQ'ed everyone on my list to check out the CM demo. Hopefully a few of the 40+ people will give it a try. I can count on one hand the number of games I would recommend to friends. Trully an addictive, just one more turn, what do you mean it 3 O'clock in the morning kind of game. ------------------ "Armchair Generals never lose any men"-Darstand
