SIMPLY OVERWHELMING
Chris Jenkins replied to Capt Miller's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Agreed, I just got it today. It is enourmous. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -
There is another way of firing the 60mm. The mortar men taught us about it. You load the round, brace the tube against a tree, and fire it almost horizontally. Only used during patrolling, and then only in emergencies. Also, if they think the position will be taken, they fire four rounds straight up on the maximum charge and run. The enemy gets the position, then they get creamed. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

List of Weapon & Unit Descriptions?
Chris Jenkins replied to WSCFan's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
A recoiless rifle is a direct fire weapon meant to knock-out bunkers and buildings. The 90mm RR is still used by the Ranger Battalions today. During Operation Just Cause, one of my friends who was stationed there used one. He was cited with the Army Commendation Medal with Valor insignia for his actions. He was in the scout platoon of the airborne battalion in the Panama brigade. A three-story building was giving them trouble. While his friends were being shot around him, he set the rifle up and fired it. He hit the corner of the building, collapsing it. No one inside survived. -
Go East, young man. GO EAST!!!
Chris Jenkins replied to Commissar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
The problem with the Russians was not the soldiers, but the commanders. The penchant for running into fire like it was WWI (like they had won that one) proved disasterous. Maybe changing the AI is the best way to represent this. The Russian AI could think that charging is acceptable in more situations than the normal AI. Add poor leadership ratings to officers and I think it would work. Also, letting the troops accept "suicidal" charge orders would make things realistic. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" [This message has been edited by Chris Jenkins (edited 06-26-2000).] -

I am sure the next version would be faster in the making if they kept the current engine. Let's hope for it. At any rate, it should be an incredible game. WISH LIST: Trenches, snipers, piles of rubble, three-story buildings, soldiers on rooftops, sewer movement, new OOBs, deep mud, new weather, new building art, advanced river settings, Commissars, human wave attacks, anti-panzer mines that have to be placed on the tank, penal units, bridge building, playing entire battles back, ski infantry, bunkers anyone can occupy, NKVD machinegun units, machineguns from downed aircraft used by infantry (Cholm pocket), The ability to see all the people if realistically scaled and during full game playback, guns that cannot reach upper building levels if they are too close, and operation-level bridge building. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" [This message has been edited by Chris Jenkins (edited 06-25-2000).] -
Book Suggestions & German Forces

I have read "Soldat" and recommend it. A very intelligent officer, and a fascinating read. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -
Thanks, Galland! I have an idea for something way beyond the scope of the game, but fun nontheless. Every division has three battalions of 105mm artillery and one of 150mm. If armored (I don't like the Hummel), the 150mm are rockets. At corps level, they have 210mm artillery. An armored corps has 210mm rockets instead of cannons. This produces what the Russians call "strategic camouflage." You can talk about moving your "210s" or order "150 ammo" over the radio without giving away your unit type. These are the kind of cues intel people use to detect units. It simplifies logistics (kind of like my 13,000-man divisions). Also, the uniformity makes designing a fantasy army easier. The real kick from designing this kind of thing is the stories (fan fiction) that comes from it. By creating a fictional millieu, you can write your own "War and Rememberance" (or in this case "War and Replays). ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

I've searched the board, and I can not find if the game has 210mm rockets. I know it has 150mm and 300mm, but I'm interested in 210mm for the army I am "building." Anyone seen them on the OOB? ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

Book Suggestions & German Forces
Chris Jenkins replied to Nigel Wulf's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Nigel, I have the ultimate guide for you. It costs about forty dollars, but is an indespensable guide. "War Department Handbook to German Military Forces." Most big book stores carry it. It contains answers to all of the questions you asked in excrutiating detail. Also, http://www.uwm.edu/People//jpipes is a HUGE site with the kind of information you want. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -

Everyone, this has been two years in the making. Just wait a couple more days and everything will be fine. I should know, I'm still waiting as well. Remember, we are not living in Bosnia. Life is good, business is good, people are wonderful. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -
Hey, Panzershark! Great song. How about "Erwin Rommel" instead of "General Patton." Same syllables as the song. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

Yeah, mine has yet to arrive. Still, fortunes of war. Soldiers are always impatient before a battle. BTS has considered (a long shot) doing the Pacific. I think it could be good. Not all of it was beachheads. China, the fall of singapore, ect. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

BTS, how about a Northa Africa CM 3????
Chris Jenkins replied to Panzer Grenadier's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Already planned. CM3 will be the Med (Balkans, Italy, North Africa). CM4 will be the early war years. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -
First, they must drink the juice of Safu (from which the thoughts aquire speed). Then, after offering a libation in honor of Quagnar (King of the laundry people), they must strike the corner stone of the second largest Mayan temple with a spatula. Once the appropriate number of laps around said temple are completed, they must contact Martha Stewart and demand that she pay them homage. If this request is refused, fifty cockroaches must be smashed in the pattern of her initials. Afterwards, they must begin work on "CM II: Into the Tempest." ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

Well, most shipped on Monday. With 2-3 days shipping time, I think there will be a deluge of arrivals tomorrow (including mine). ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -

OK, as soon as the IP and color diagrams are out, let's chain Steve and Charles to their desks and get CMII rolling. IV tubes should be attached and bedpans issued in order to maximize the work effort. I wonder how Soviet troop quality will be abstracted? Morale, discipline, and marxmanship are funny with the Popovs. Maybe Green troops will have Conscript firepower, but increased morale and discipline. Regular might have the same value difference, and so on. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

Tactical and Operational Convergence?
Chris Jenkins replied to Hunter's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
That would be the greatest event possible. To go from GHQ to the trenches. We could tell the story of the people involved. It would be just like writing a novel, only interactive. I can not wait to start pumping out fan fiction.
