  1. Will the reverse slope FT ambush still work? Reverse Slope Flamethrower Ambush: In SP3 (the only game I have tried it) position a flamethrower unit (tank or engineer) on the slope of a hill facing away from the enemy (the slope, not your men). Wait till they come over the hill and as they do your unit will spot them close enough (1 hex) to use their flamethrowers on them. I don't know if it is realistic or not, I just used it when I played SP3.
  2. You are right tss. I got this out of "How to Make War"(Third Edition) by Jim Dunnigan. After losing about 20-30 percent of their troops, higher level units (regiments, divisions, etc) begin to fall apart because most of these losses are in the combat branches, especially infantry and armor. If you push one of these high level units past the 30% point they begin use their support troops as (much to the support troop's dismay)line-infantry. Push them even farther (past the 50%) point, nothing is left to guard the remaining support troops and the unit ceases to exist. BTW, we passed the 10,000 post marker on this board at 5:58 PM (PST). 3. I play Chain of Command ALOT (about 4 hours a day, for over a year now) and I still find new ways of dealing out death to the enemy. Really though, they need new maps and missions for Chain of Command to avoid stagnation like that. Well at least we get CM in a short while. In the meantime im off to play more Chain of Command. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. 4. The Problem: Opponents come to battle with pre-planned fields of fire, kill sacs, etc. The Solution: A.) Similarily prepare yourself. B.) Play Close Combat 3. Really though, thats what happens when a game is played online for more than six months or so. The same phenomenom is found in Quake, Red Alert, and many other multiplayer games. The easiest way to prevent this is to periodically release new maps, units, etc. for the game. BTW, I go for solution A when I find myself in the same situation
  5. Really OSCAR? I would love to know which ones. Seriously, it is pretty lame to use someone else's arguement for your own purposes. [This message has been edited by Apocal (edited 10-23-99).]
  6. This I love about small developers. They listen to their customers (unlike some others we know ). We asked for it, we got it. Hows that for democracy
  7. Id have to say that I prefer no smoke trail. Why? Because a good deal of the art of command is deception and paranoia. Was it a Panzerfaust (a one-shot affair),or possibly a PanzerSchreck, or maybe even an 88? These are the types of questions that run through my mind during a good wargame (or any game for that matter). ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  8. Personally, I wanted the dog most of all Ok another question (and no, I don't lay awake at night thinking these up), when individual troops get hit, do they cry out (like "Medic!" or "ARRRGH!!")? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  9. Why not have a scenario about the Assault on the Aure River Brigde? Not quite as bloody as a beach assault but still challenging. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  10. I am wondering if you can post any pics of flamethrowers in action, I looked around a little but couldn't find any. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  11. I have yet another question Is there going to be music in the game? If so will it be used sparingly (ie Close Combat's opening drum beat) or used alot to give more atmosphere to the game? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  12. Hows that for realism Instead of being SUPREME GOD OF ALL DIRECT THOUGHT AND ACTION of a battalion, one guy functions as the battalion commander and a few others as company commanders. IMHO this would be a nice for clan (guild, regiment, tribe?) play. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  13. LMAO I think I got a pretty good idea of what effects it will have in the game. (ie Watch my Conscript Ost Battalion scatter to the four winds from an Elite Airborne Half-Squad firing exactly 3 shots over their heads) ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill [This message has been edited by Apocal (edited 10-20-99).]
  14. I should of named this thread "New Guy Question(s)" Ive heard people on this board talk alot about experience, but no-one mentions what different levels there are (excepting green and elite, which doesn't tell me much). Are there any in-between levels and what sort of bonuses do they give (ie Elite troops get a 50% bonus in morale)? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  15. Half a platoon and an 88!!! I see your point! Which brings up another interesting point. I read somewhere (cant remember the site, I believe it was Wild Bill and the Raiders) that a combat battalion taking 20% casualties in one battle was bad, 40% was REALLY bad, and 60% and up was considered complete destruction of the unit. In most wargames I have played they seem to gloss over this and let units fight till 100% percent casualties are reached. If in CM units are regularly fought to 80% losses in men and material then I can see why the game wouldnt bother tracking individual soldier stats. BTW, here is an interesting little tidbit I found floating in cyberspace. You have to dig alittle to find the good stuff but it is there. http://www.2am.com/2am/coc/cocpaper.htm ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. 16. I have a question for BTS. Will there be a continuous, linked campaign game (ie Close Combat) where you start with an initial batch of green and inexperienced troops that, if they manage to survive, gain more experience as time passes? I always like the role-playing aspect of wargames, taking crap troops and their leaders and turning them into Sergeant Rock and Major Glory ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  17. Thanks for the info Preacher. Ill be sure to check it out. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  18. Funny Kingtiger. But when you said the game ran slow you never mentioned what type of system you had. I think PG3D is pretty cool. I like the Leader System it has in it most. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  19. I suppose this will get me laughed off the board but here goes..... What is PitS? Ive only been playing serious wargames about three years and Im too young (16) to know about any of the boardgames. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  20. Check the back of the box. PG3D REQUIRES a 3d accelerator (and a good one at that). An underpowered system might be the cause of the "slow movement" you are talking about.
  21. I got another story for you guys. While playing CC3 online a guy with the name Pyro-GI asks to play me. The linkup goes smoothly and we both get into the game. While in the game I noticed that EVERY one of his units spit flame. Needless to say I had about 2/5 of my force left after 3 minutes (i know its dumb, but i usually dont keep a reserve). I thought all was lost... BUT I had an 88 positioned up on a hill. Foolishly enough, he attacked it, losing all his tanks to the might of German machinery. Then the impossible happened. My gun crew SURRENDERED! I was pissed, he was laughing. Probably the most screwed up check for morale I have ever seen. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  22. Bones dont squish. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  23. I emailed my name two days BEFORE I posted. The only reason I posted it was to cover all bets. I like covering all the bets. Keeps me from losing much. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  24. You left out Mayes (American). There really was a Captain Jesse Mayes of the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, so that should satisfy the history nuts ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
  25. I have also been wondering if Flamethrowers are going into CM. It would be cool to lay down suppresive fire on a bunker, then rush up Assault Engineers equipped with Flamethrowers and demolition charges to take it out of action. BTW, does anyone know of a good online source for TO&Es? Ive been having a bit of trouble finding them. apocal@wa.freei.net ICQ: #45055966 Thanks in advance. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver.
