  1. Upgrades are not patches. Upgrades are a paid product that add new features to the game. Patches are free releases that fix bugs and similar problems in the game. Each Combat Mission title has received multiple patches, and back when the engine was in its infancy it received over a dozen of them to address deficiencies in the game engine.

    If you want to label Upgrades as patches, you are free to do so, but you won't be taken seriously when you start redefining terms to mean whatever you want them to mean.

    Upgrades are a significant amount of work for a team of our size and we cannot afford to spend all of that time doing free work. So the alternative to Upgrades is to just not do anything resembling them at all. This of course doesn't include patches to fix bugs, which as noted before are free. If you don't think it's worth the money, don't buy it, but trying to convince or guilt us to give you free stuff is not going to work.

    You're comparing an independent game software company to the Soviet Union?

    Let me guess:

    Steve = Stalin

    Charles = Lenin

    ChrisND = Dzerzhinsky

    Moon = Khrushchev

    ummm,

    Paper Tiger = Zhukov?

    Okay, I'm out of ideas, and I'm out of this thread.

    Good night everyone!

    Can I at least be Trotsky?

    Hi Mum :)

    Indeed.

    I'm going to close this thread because I am psychic and have foreseen that it will consist of the same people telling us how the business model is all wrong, and then people disagree with them, and then they yell something about oppression because there are people who dare disagree with them, and then those people lose their patience and start getting snippy, and so on and so forth until it spirals out of control. :D

  2. Why where they not in the first release of the game ? As I understand it.. in a russian platoon, first two squads have 4 scope 1P63 and  third squad 2..

    At the time that we made the equipment and models list for the game, we didn't think that these were a standard item that was common enough to warrant priority status for regular motor rifle brigade equipment. When it is time to determine the details of the first module, we'll re-evaluate that decision as we firm up the equipment list. They were included on a list of possible optional equipment that we could include, but as with every release (and every other game developed, ever) we have to stop at some point and lock the equipment down, and that always means that we don't get to include everything that we would like to. These sorts of leftovers usually become a priority for the next module, unless there is a technical reason that they are not being implemented.

  3. After reading through this thread again, I'm actually going to lock it. Something that I should have done in the first place. The question has already been answered and the issue has already been decided (we aren't currently interested in blood/gore in Combat Mission), and I can't see this thread, which actually started as an off-topic conversation in another thread, going anywhere but down. I'm not particularly interested in hosting an argument over a non-issue for CM.

  4. OK, time to lock this one. It was an announcement that an updated campaign file was on the Repository, and it has served that purpose. If people see another problem, or have some grievance they wish to air, there are other places on the forum to do that.

    Regarding the invisible AT gun in the campaign. This problem has already been identified and fixed. However, the fix requires the patch (which has not been released yet), so you won't see this resolved until the patch is out.

    1. According to Microsoft I won't have to re-install any software (in this case the CM family of games and modules), I rather doubt this, anybody know if this is so?

    So far I haven't seen any reports that people have needed to reinstall their Combat Mission games, and my own tests have shown the same. The games should work right away. However, everyone's computers and situation are different, so I can't promise that will be the case for everyone.

    2. If I DO decide to re-install is there any way to check how many (if any) reactivations I have left beforehand on my various games and modules? I own the lot so if I have to re-buy it will be rather costly.

    If that happens you DO NOT have to rebuy anything. Just send a quick ticket to Helpdesk explaining what happened and they will help you out.

  6. Also I am very impressed that BF knew that and even more impressed that they would go to the trouble to make sure that that fact was modelled in the game.  I for one would never have known.  :-))

    Check out some of the British/Canadian recon units. There are periods in the game where their structure and/equipment change on an almost monthly basis. I might have gotten carried away with the TO&E...

  7. On a separate note, I also hope the BF crew recognise my love for the game they've created. I'm a little annoyed that my work IP address has been banned from accessing BF's sites. I presume they've marked me down as a 'bad egg' for questioning the content of the upcoming CM Bulge release on the FGM forum (it's my understanding that BF staff have read the thread there). Please note this BF, when I've been critical of CM, it's always been out of a love for the game and a desire to see it become the best game it can, rather than a want to undermine it. I would appreciate it if you could take my work IP address off your ban list, I've tried emailing you about the subject but had no response.

    Even if only in  a small way, I hope the few CM videos I've made over the years have helped to market your game and increase its audience. At the very least I hope the hundreds of hours I've put into making them demonstrate that I'm not some destructive CM troll.

    All the best (and hoping you don't ban my home IP address)

    Since I began working here we have never, not once, punished anyone for being critical of the game or certain aspects of it by banning them from the forum, or restricting their access. Being incredibly unconstructive or disruptive in the process, yes, but not for simply being critical. ** I know for a fact that your access wasn't banned or restricted for anything you said on another forum. And our supposed tactic of repression doesn't even make any sense: why would we ban your work IP address, and not just ban your forum account altogether? The fact that you are even posting this on our forums should be proof enough that whatever happened with your access from work wasn't some sort of act of silencing you on our part.

    Send me a private message and I'll see what I can do about your access from work. I will definitely need more information from you, because looking at your forum account there are no holds or restrictions on it.

    And lastly, thank you for your work on the videos. It's always humbling to see people willing to invest that much time and effort in something I've been involved with. Guys like you help make this community what it is.

    ** Which as a side note is a distinction that some people have a difficult time making, but that is not in your case
