  1. I'd like to suggest that when the game is finally shipped, that the SC2 boards have several different forums. IE - Technical Issues, General SC2 Gameplay, Editor Scripting, and Editor Mods. Oh...and while my vote carries no weight, I think Edwin would make a great guest Moderator of the Scripting forum! (Moon, can ya second that?) I really appreciate your thoughts/ideas Edwin. Very creative - almost makes me want to dive in to explore the Editor myself. With community scripting comments and suggestions, I really can see this game becoming a classic for the ages! I also can see HC and BF continuing to make money from the game for years to come by releasing $5 "Officially Tested and Approved" scenario digital downloads.
  2. Germany starts with more units than anybody in the demo... and you can't purchase more. So I don't think it's a big shocker than you can take England. Maybe someone may actually be able to take Russia or the USA too? BUT - it doesnt mean that the game is broke or needs any changes! I suspect that many/most "gamey" tactics found in the demo won't work in the real game. Blashy and Bill (not to mention HC) have that perspective. We don't.
  3. Very cool. Yes, Boggs was a crack up, with a great wit and gift of gab. Well done BF and HC. I wonder how many other Easter Eggs will be found?
  4. Don't get me wrong Grognard, I enjoyed your metaphors. And perhaps you are right...from a developer and/or programmer point of view. But I did not, ever, find myself banging my head against any padded walls, monitors, or useless mouse pads at any time using the interface. I LIKED the interface. Yes, I'm sure it could be better...for some people. But not me. Sandy's a perfect example, and I'm cool with that. I will even recommend your book to some developer friends of mine, they'll probably enjoy it. But your post struck me as saying, "You're an idiot. You like it because you are an uniformed, unread, and inexperienced fool. If you just expand your horizons you'll realize you don't like it." I'm sure you would quote Plato to me: "It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied." But for me, I'm with Cypher: "Ignorance is bliss." (There's your movie quote JJR...) I guess I rather like my padded cell...
  5. I thought it was interesting that the Wargamer mentioned something that has been overlooked with most "first impressions" posted... that the MAJORITY of changes/upgrades that are in place with SC2 are a direct result of the gaming community (US!). I thought it was a nice write-up. And I also have had no problems with the interface. But of course, I tinkered and played with the Demo a few times without issuing an opinion. I also went and RTFM. Just because I don't have any problems with the interface, doesn't make me an apologist! (Thank you HC for implementing so many user opinions on this from SC1!) And I don't have to read a book on interface design to know that I like it. (Sounds like a used car salespitch to me: "But I don't want to drive a stick shift!" "Oh yes you do, read this book and you'll understand how ignorant you are and why you really do want a stick shift.")
  6. Thanks Bill. Can you help with the HQ modes? Whats the Auto Assist and how do I select units in Manual mode? Very pleased with the Demo so far. Still very happy with my decision to pre-order. If you other lurkers haven't done so, get on board!
  7. Already got a folder full of maps of the Pacific already, eh Edwin?
  8. Thanks for the detailed posts HC. Sounds like we are alot closer to a demo and Gold announcement than I thought! (Come on Steve@Battlefront, fire up those presses!) I think most of us understand the "basic/generic" AAR's are geared mainly to keep us hanging around and looking at SOMETHING. I think some of the frustration can be attributed to anticipation (which continues to build with every I see). But please, PLEASE don't stop the flow of AAR's or screenshots because some of us old timers forget our manners or make panicky assumptions. Keep it coming... I got a good vein right here for another AAR!
  9. Outstanding. Thanks pzgndr. How will inactive Soviet technology affect the Barbarossa defense for you? IE - Do you get less units available to you? Can you upgrade the units you start with while inactive? How are you finding the dipolomacy working? How is the Intel feature affecting the game for you? I know it's a pain for screenies, but there are hundreds of us long time lurkers that have been jonesing for ANY news on SC2. Screenshots would be a nice bone to throw us if you find the time. Thanks for posting this. (By the way, who's your opponent? Can you say?)
  10. Thanks HC. If our votes count, I'd love to see the North Africa campaign you eluded to long ago. And thanks for the tasty morsel about the timer! But now do we worry that Desert Dave is MIA????
  11. I think he is officially MIA. And one would have thought that an invite for Desert Dave to write some sort of poem to ressurect Blashy and cajole him into a North Africa Campaign AAR would be met with jubilation, rhyme and meter!
  12. Maybe some DD haiku would spur Blashy into starting another AAR. Maybe a glimpse at the rumored North Africa campaign? //Lurker mode reactivated
  13. A NEW AAR (w/ screenies) would be a great way to ring in the New Years while we all eagerly await the "Going Gold" notice! Whattaya say Blashy? I got a good vein here, need a fix... (//Lurker mode reactivated)
  14. Long time lurker, but this thread actually forced me to register and post. I discovered Battlefront by word of mouth, because a friend really enjoyed CMBB. I didn't care for it, but when I noticed the hex based SC1, I immediately downloaded the demo. It took me two days to order it...only because I couldn't stop playing the demo! SC1 has been one of the most enjoyable games I have ever purchased. It brought back memories of WaW, 3R, SL, etc. I loved the hex based "board game" and simplicity. At least six friends also bought the game, and we continue to spam PBEM files back and forth. I was EXTREMELY excited to see Moon's announcement about SC2. And all I could say when I saw the preview was WOW. Amazing graphics (yeah, I also could care less...but it sure didn't hurt!!), a bigger map (yes!)...and what's this???!!! Nearly every single suggestion the SC community suggested had been implemented! OMG! I thought, man, Hubert has been lurking here as much as I have! I was STUNNED to see so much gaming community input actually implemented! That being said, I am a bit embarrassed of some of my fellow gamers comments, both at Steve and HC. HC made an AMAZING game with SC1. Period. And Steve put it out there for us in a way I appreciated (pass savings on to customers by nixing the fancy packaging, etc). Neither of these guys should be second guessed, period. That doesn't mean you can't have opinions, or express them in this forum. But you are on their turf, so try to be respectful, and mindful that they read these posts. They've proved that by giving us just a GLIMPSE SC2, that they have listened to their customers. So the biggest gripes are hex based and top down issues. Okay. Yeah, I want that too. Its just ONE of the reasons I loved SC1. HC has already said in another post that a top down view may be an option for SC2(kinda like an XP to traditional 95/98 feature). Great. Tiles?????? Too bad. But you know, I'm giving Battlefront the benefit of the doubt. Sure I'm disappointed that hexes aren't being used, but who can honestly say they haven't already imagined how that is really going to change the whole Barbarossa campaign! I think we all need to remember how we felt when we read the SC2 announcement. If you were jazzed about all the new features that have been implemented, then you need to move on past the hex issue. If the first thing you REALLY thought was, "TILES? WTF!", then maybe SC2 is not for you. Feel free to let Battlefront know, as they have demonstrated that they actually do care what you want. If you've already voiced your disappointment, there's no need to do it again. It's been heard ad nauseum. Just be thankful for a fantastic SC1. As for me, I'll only be playing the demo as I wait for my full version to arrive in the mail - despite hexes/tiles. Carry on HC and Steve, as you were.
