  1. Thank you for the clarification. I knew that we are supposed to use NBC gear when around expended DU munitions, but I didn't know about the test you referred to.

I, once again, was referring to the battlefield use of DU, and it's radioactive properties, as crew killers for AFV's, and I still hold that it acts too slowly to be effective. (In a tactical sense. As a terror weapon, or as a environmental hazard, it could be very dangerous).

  2. No, I had the name "paladin1128" when we played, but I lost the password and the email account I had was closed down, so I am now NG cavscout.

I think we were playing gallagher, you beat me first as the Opfor, then as the US. And soundly too. I learned a lot.

Congrats on the job, hope you had a good vacation. I was hired as a police officer here, but now I am looking for a new department, since it didn't work out. I got married, and now we are expecting twins in November.

I bought the Combat Mission games a while ago, and play them alot now. I gave my copy of tacops 3 to my brother, but now I only have the army version, tacopscav. I plan on buying tacops 4 when I find a new job.

    Good to hear from you.

  3. Hi Stoffel, I am glad to see you are still on the forums. I thought you had said you were going to have to drop out of the community because of job situation? Anyway, good to see you again.

If I recall correctly, didn't you totally destroy me at tacops a couple of times?

  4. I can think of 2 factors causing modern tanks to carry HEAT rounds.

1, cost, I think the heat round is significantly cheaper than a DU SABOT round, and why use sabot when heat will work?

2, some targets would be better affected by Heat than by sabot, such as some lightly armored APC's, the sabot might cut right through, without enough energy being dumped in the target to kill it. This sounds silly, but I heard guys coming back from gulf war 1, saying that when faced with a BMP, if you only used AP, (kind of like sabot for the 25mm on the bradley), the bmp would keep fighting, because the rounds went right through one side, the troop in the way, and back out the other side, so you might kill some troops, but the vehicle would still be alive. What they recommended was lacing the back part of the IFV with AP, to rupture and spill the fuel cells, then give it a burst of HE to light the fuel and kill the BMP.

    Just my 22 cents worth.

I was with 3-35 Armor in Bamberg, Germany. Went and fought in the 1st gulf war, then my unit deactivated and i finished up back at knox with 5-15 Cav, right back where i started :( </font>
  6. The Soviets went with smaller, lower profile tanks than the west did. One way they acheived this was by removing the loader, and substituting him with a mechanized "auto loader". The only problem was that sometimes the auto loader would screw up and instead of loading a round into the breech and slamming it shut, it would grab the gunners arm, load it into the breech, and slam it shut. Gunners arm won't penetrate even an M-60A1 at 500 meters...

  7. As to your other questions, I believe that there will be a retail version released soon, like they did with "beyond overlord".

There are quite a few people who play this game, just try the opponent finder forums to find someone to play with. Or use the AI as an opponent for a while to get used to the game.

I have been playing wargames since the early 1980's. The Combat Mission games brought me back to computer gaming. It is the best incarnation of tactical level WW2 combat I have seen. It compares to the tabletop game, Advanced Squad Leader.

Don't get frustrated if it takes a while to get the hang of it, if you are willing to invest some time, I think you will find the Combat Mission games a worthy investment. I got both for 65.00$. I am playing them still, long after games such as "Janes Fleet Combat", "Battlefield 1942", "Command and Conquer", and even Civilization III are consigned to the back of the bottom drawer of my filing cabinet. And each of those cost in the 40-50 dollar range when I bought them.

There you go, my 37 cents worth.

  8. Speaking from experience, in June as a matter of fact. It is more dangerous going down a steep slope than up. This was carrying a pack with about 25 lbs of equipment, a M-16 with M203, and a load bearing vest with about 8-10 lbs of gear. No ammo though. About 75-80 degrees Farenheit, high humidity, north - central Wisconsin. The thing is, going up, you get tired and out of breath, but, going down, your ankles start to ache, and you have to be very careful of losing your footing. Especially if trying to be stealthy.

  9. My NG brigade is currently training up and getting ready for, hopefully, enhanced status, we are slated for a JRTC deployment in 2008. Are there any JRTC scenarios for tacops3, tacops4, or tacopscav? Either brigade level, or utilizing the Bde Cav troop.

  10. Major H, first of all, thanks for developing this great game, and for the great support. I have the tacopscav version and tacops 3, and as soon as I have some spare money (not likely to be soon with twins on the way) I will be getting tacops 4 to support you and the company.

Second, I have been playing the Combat Mission games, and I was wondering if you would comment on whether or not you and the CM team collaborated at all in game development? I ask because of the shared "we go" system.

That is all for now, thanks again.
