  1. Halloween is my favorite holiday. Lots of fun and not nearly the pressure and BS that go with Christmas.

In my neighborhood we seem to be getting fewer and fewer kids. We have only been in our house for 3 years so I wonder if our section has a bad reputation or something. I can hear kids around our area but they seem to turn down other streets.

Next year I am going to try to do the big garage thing to see if I can draw the kids back.

  2. A lot of the positions are pretty obvious and can be clobbered by arty or overwatched by snipers. A heavy/quick 155 barrage will clear out most enemy positions and use up hardly any ammo. Be sure to save some arty for smoke though, it will be a life saver.

One thing you can do is to peak a tank into a marginal position and it will draw missiles that have a good chance of slamming into something other than the tank. Then all you have to worry about are RPGs. That is where your smoke and infantry come in.

  3. How are you fighting? You have to be nearly totally defensive with this one. Set your guys in ambush positions and keep them out of sight of long range fire.

With the Javelin, the best thing to do is to shuffle them around to where they can see and engage one tank at a time. That will usually keep them from being targetted.

Use your Naval support to clobber the enemy units in overwatch on the far hill. The response time is too long to be really useful against the tanks. It can work though but you have to get kind of lucky.

Basically let the enemy come to you.

  4. I almost never use area fire on a floor, it feels way too gamey to me.

It's not, it's SOP. Move units in position to fire on the enemy positions to get them to put their heads down while your assault element conducts building entry. The reason it takes tens, or even hundreds, of thousands of rounds to produce a single casualty is because only a minute amount of fire is actually aimd AT someone. Most of it is designed to influence enemy action rather than destroy him.

During one excercise I was on as an M60 gunner I was suppressing a building while one of the squads manuevered in position to enter and clear. They had set up a popup target in one of the windows for us to shoot at. As the squad was entering one side I was shooting up the other.

(Little addendum to that story: We did so well that the BC decided to "reward" us by allowing us to do the range again. This would have been fine except that it was March in Wildflecken and there were three feet of snow on the ground, and the house was at the end of a 3 mile approach march up the side of a mountain. Needless to say we were less than appreciative of our reward. I asked the leader of the assault squad how the target lifter was set up and he said it was just sitting on the floor. So the next interation saw a lot of low shots at the man in the window. It wasn't long before he quit coming back up.)

  5. I would just like to add that of course Oil is the cause of all of this. If the ME didn't have any oil then the West would happily sit by and let them kill themselves, Israel included since we would have no need for a strong ally in the region. If you have any doubts about this just look at Africa, or even the Balkans. There are genocides and ethnic cleansings that the West is perfectly willing to overlook because they don't threaten any of our vital interests.

Please don't bother citing the feeble efforts of the EU and NATO in the Balkans or the UN/US in Somalia. If there was any actual interest in either of those areas the West would have gone in like A-stan or Iraq.
