So, has anyone come up with a way in WaW to actually reduce, remove and replace with an Axis unit, the Maltese Allied Garrison?

The application of Hvy Bombers, an Italian fleet and even German tactical just hasn't been able to reduce it sufficiently--and neither amphip or Fallschumjadger can drop (apparently) on a reduced unit--regardless of morale or readiness of the hapless Maltese defenders

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Malta is very easy if Axis is willing to commit the necessary ressources to take it:

Just pound city and port to zero with ships/bombers. Then the defender can only reinforce to strength 4. With a few tac bombers it will be removed in no time - at str 4 even one airstrike with an upgraded tac bomber (don´t forget: anti-tank tech increases its strike power a lot) can then be enough to finish it off...if you do it right it will fall within 2 turns - 3-4 max if you send only minimal forces to take it.

Easy, an HQ on its way to Afrika makes a pit stop in southern italy 3-4 airfleets + italian Navy reduce the port to zero afterwards the entrenchment of the garrison. Without supply the garrison can only reinforce to 5 again. Usally you have time to this because you need some turns to ship over troops to Afrika anyway. (If you dont want to fight for Afrika forget the battle for Malta anyway)

Its quite expensive but could be worthwhile if you want to prevent the Malta effect

In one game I managed to get a level 2 A.A.gun on Malta.The island fell but it took a pretty big toll of Axis aircraft hits(with the experience loss)and mpps to get it.If you can get a fairly good tech.A.A.gun on Malta it gets pretty expensive for the Axis.Especially if the Royal Navy has a potent force in the Med.
