  1. So what's the scoop on Breach Teams? They've come up several times in this thread with the implication that they can blast gaps in wire. I thought they could only breach walls and hedgerows. If they can blow gaps in wire, can any unit with a demo charge do so too? Michael
  2. Maybe for going through gaps; I use Move for that anyway, so haven't had my eye on checking for that. But moving over open ground the soldiers do zig-zag somewhat as I described. Michael
  3. Wrong on both counts...as with everything else you post. Michael
  4. I didn't need it. I did notice however in Joe's copy that he had underlined several passages with the same purple crayon he uses for all his correspondence. Michael
  5. If you use Quick movement, at least they zig-zag a bit instead of lining up like ten pins. Michael
  6. Mister womble, although a gentleman, has misspoken. The correct name for the game is Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy. If you look for it under that name, you will find it. Michael
  7. Aren't those the ones you let him borrow? The ones with the public service ads on the back page that tell you how to recognize the symptoms of venereal disease? Michael
  8. Not disputing any of that, but I was referring to the early design concept stage when it was being mooted what kind of new plane was desired. Michael
  9. You threw away the litter box and now allow your cats to do their business wherever they like? Why would we expect anything else from you? Michael
  10. My 40 year memory of the A-10's development was that the design started out in the '60s as a robust purpose-built replacement for the A-1. Then the Viet Nam war ended and its mission got redefined to tank killer in an anti-WARPAC environment, and that's when the gun got added. It's an impressive weapon, but as you say, serious overkill for COIN work and a big weight penalty to haul around. Michael
  11. How about going uphill in any type of terrain? Vehicles appear to move a little slower uphill, but I've never tested to see. Michael
  12. I notice that the cavalry troop (and probably the squadron as well) is lousy with radios, though I expect they are all in vehicles. I just started a QB with a troop and it will be interesting to see how it's going to work out. I discovered that without an FO you can't call in air support, which in retrospect is quite reasonable, but I wasn't expecting it. Next time I will get the bloody FO. Michael
  13. Interesting, RH. Thanks for passing that along. Michael
  14. Interestingly, it began life as a torpedo bomber. It would have been ferocious in that role as it could carry two of those. But before it could join the fleet, the war was over and it didn't look like the Navy would need any more torpedo bombers. Then it occurred to someone that it could be made to carry an awful lot of bombs. The rest, as they say, is history. Michael
  15. That sounds almost like Ken Tout's Tank! Michael
  16. Really? Which is well and good for Afghanistan, but what if we are faced with a war with an industrialized power? Say, N. Korea for instance? Michael
  17. I wouldn't brag about that. But on second thought, I guess you don't have much else to brag about. Michael
  18. It makes a lot of sense for an observation and reconnaissance aircraft to be light and cheap. Ergo the current crop of drones. But when you want to put an effective amount of ordnance on a target, you need carrying capacity. The A67 is just barely going to reach that scale, and that's without all the extra equipment that always seems to wind up on an aircraft between drawing board and battleground. Michael
  19. Still confused, eh? Maybe you should think about cutting back on the booze and strong cigars. Michael
  20. Sort of related: I had the commander of an HT get nailed by small arms fire without damaging the track. It was a .50 caliber armed track and I didn't want to lose that firepower, so I drove an idle jeep over to it, had the jeep's driver dismount, and then climb aboard the track. He successfully manned the MG. Michael
  21. I doubt that will ever be possible. BFC has stated that games from different theaters and eras are not compatible. Michael
  22. As usual, you of the Middle Lost are hopelessly out of date. Our current role model is David Morse. Do at least try to keep up. Michael
