spotting tactics / units / c2

Recommended Posts

hey grognards,

i am new to this game. may anyone give a summary about c2 and enemy spotting?

1. where do i have to place my units to get a good view beyond the frontline?

2. whats the main difference between HQ units and forward observers?

3. whats the visibillity range of those units?

4. are units placed in buildings invisible for the enemy?

1. You can check LOS from any waypoint you make. So, if you want to know what someone could see from a high building for example, simoky pick any (inf unit obviously) and put a movement waypoint on the building at whatever floor you are interested in. If you click on that waypoint you can see the LOS from that point.

3. Visibility is dependant on real world issues like weather, smoke, obstructions etc.

High ground with concealment and (optimally) also cover.

2. whats the main difference between HQ units and forward observers?

FOs are better suited to calling in mortar/artillery fire.

3. whats the visibillity range of those units?

Rule of thumb: a unit with binoculars has greater visibility range than a unit without such.

4. are units placed in buildings invisible for the enemy?

No, but they're quite hard to spot, so long as they're not firing.

Hope this helps. =)

Snorrsenkel,

I'm pretty new to the game myself, but you have to keep in mind that all the spotting in the world will simply not matter in some cases. Sometimes an enemy unit is just too well hidden or out of range, and sometimes you simply don't have the time to wait for spotters or infantry to wait and spot.

Thus real life combat tactics must be used at all times, even if you don't suspect enemy activity. I'm learning this the hard way, all the time. Every time I get a little impatient, every time I move a unit a little bit too far without cover from the flanks, someone gets shot up. The squad leader gets killed or a vehicle is destroyed. It's a pain every time.

Still love it, though :D
