Gen. J-sun
I ran an unrelated test on mortars and noticed that some mortar rounds hit the gun tube the gun then turned and opened fire on the mortar team. Is it possible at some point to include gun damage on artillery at some point or is the pipe better armored than I thought?
Magpie_Oz
Well a gun barrel is pretty strong, they are designed to contain and explosion after all. You can "spike" by shoving another round in the end of the barrel and it may crack the barrel but I think a mortar round striking the outside (1 in a billion shot) probably wouldn't really damage the structure of the barrel because the explosion is not contained. Also most of the BANG from an arty round goes out and up not down.
MikeyD
Remember that old Youtube clip about the Garand showing a sharpshooter plugging the Pak40s oil-filled recoil cylinder making the gun inoperable. So in theory the gun could be taken out by damage. I don't know if the gun damage model is that specific. I usually manage to kill off the crew before it comes to 'breaking' the gun.
Boche
Ive managed to take out a gun, it was in the second mission of courage and fortitude (the infamous school of hard knocks) with a sherman on the move from about 900 meters
