ade670
Guys, What are you getting for your file sizes in PBEM. Mine is about 12mbs - jeez - is that really what it is to send all the data? Seems excessive Ade
Sergei
It depends on the size of map and amount of units. I'm currently playing two games, one has 3-4 MB files and the other 17-20 MB files. The latter is a 3x3 km map with several tank companies maneuvering. Gmail still handles it fine. But it can get even bigger than that if the map is really complex or if there's lots of units with lots of orders etc.
Ranger33
I'm playing one on a small map, a company + a couple tanks for each side. The files are all 4-5 mb, which is isn't bad but still takes a couple minutes to upload, no way I would download and upload 20 mb files for each turn. We need realtime with pause, or wego with no replay, come on BF! *rabble rabble rabble*
Broadsword56
One of my PBEM opponents turned me on to dropbox (www.dropbox.com). It's a remote free file sharing app. You just put the turn file in dropbox, "share" it with your opponent, and then your opponent can DL it without using e-mail.
ClarkWGriswold
Dropbox is definitely the way to go. Much faster and simpler than email, and you don't have to worry about clogging you in/outbox. Also, if you have the tray icon (or taskbar icon on Mac) running, you get instant notification when a new file is available. Very nice.
Blackcat
"We need ... wego with no replay" Why bother if there is no replay? It would be unplayable except for very small scale actions. Besides which I was given to understand that the size of the files containing the turn data is one of the main reasons why full WEGO over TCP/IP could be implemented.
