Biggles194 Posted December 8, 2007 Share Posted December 8, 2007 I have been resurrecting some older games on my iMac 400 which runs a Rage 128 Card under Mac OS9.2 . After disabled the offending ATI extension, CMBO runs really well. However every time I try to start up CMBB I get a warning that it can only run on a min of 600 x 800 screen res. Now my screen is set at that res but as I boot up the game I see it change the res back to 640x480! I have tried everything I know to fix this but with no luck. Any Ideas? Make sure your OS9.2 is up to date (9.2.2) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288 And here is a collection of ATI drivers and fixes that I've collected along the way (read them before applying and back-up your extensions before installing) ati_OS9_drivers.sit Delete your 'Combat Mission BB Prefs' file in your System/Preferences folder. and set your monitor for 1024 x 768. CMBB will set itself for the optimum resolution. I think because you've disabled your ATI extensions your system it is now running at basic barebones which CMBO can work in, but CMBB is struggling. The imac's inbuilt rage pro will struggle with CMBB as it makes more of a demand on the 3D graphics card than CMBO. The ati7000 struck the optimum balance between functionality and appearance, but that wasn't fitted in the imac.. You can get an old g4 tower or eMac with either an ati radeon7000 or 32mb Nvidia card for very little outlay that would better play CM. Ignore Kettler as he knows diddly squat. If so use the updaters to give you the most up to date ati extensions and control panels from 2002 rather than your current circa 2000. * Topic: Let's get this iMac problem fixed! I've got a 500Mhz DV imac laying around I'll see if I can get install CMBB on that from scratch - though not till tomorrow. I can tell you from direct ROW experience that a fairly vanilla rented 400 MHz Mac tower (512 MB RAM and 16 MB VRAM ATI Rage (something chip) was enough to run CMAK pretty well, at least in the scenarios I was in early on, and that's with the additional dust modeling CPU load of CMAK factored in. Can also tell you that I did nothing special with the rented unit, merely uploaded the game, fired up the E-mail, downloaded the ROW scenario. and began the game under whatever the latest version was of OS 9 then. Wicky Posted December 10, 2007 Share Posted December 10, 2007 OK G3 500 imac ati rage 128pro (20GB & 512mb) with a clean install of OS 9.2.2 (with non of the ati updaters used) - fired up the CMBB demo without a hitch. Vehicle skins are a bit blurred compared to how they render on a retail radeon 7000 due to down-sampling but it runs acceptably. All I can suggest is that you do a clean install of OS9 from scratch after backing up any essential data then reinstalling CMBB. Or alternatively enable the stock extensions I've reproduced from the imac sytem profiler as possibly your extensions folder contains a confusing mish-mash of ati drivers (active and/or disabled).
