scottie
CMx1 when you select a unit it the control panel indicates the cover they are under / terrain there are on. This is useful for finely tuning placement to maximise cover versus viability for example. CMx2 there is no such terrain cover indication that i can see on the control panel other than actually looking at the unit on the map. This is difficult as a SQUARE in not exactly made of one single terrain object. How do CMx2 players deal with knowing if a unit is in cover or not ? , how do you know what terrain there are on ? Thanks Scott

Field Marshal Blücher
Not trying to be smart, but this is indicated by the visual representation. For example grass, trees or rocks. Agreed. To put it more simply, look at the guys in the 3d view. That's what cover they have! There's a lot less abstraction in CMx2 than there is in CMx1. Look at your guys from the enemy's point of view, and what you see is roughly what you get in terms of cover.
MikeyD
CMx2's layered terrain makes coming up with 'hard numbers' difficult. You can have rocky terrain with brush and any number of tree types on the same spot. Plus move that spot from the reverse slope to the forward slope of a hill in view of the enemy and things change radically. Its best to play the game as though it were real life. If you were standing in a wheat field nobody would be around to supply you with a cover and concealment number
scottie
Thanks for the reply (not being funny comments too ) , all good points. Its just hard coming from the black and white in or out context of CMx1 to CMx2 way of doing things. Never really sure if troops are hidden or not.
Lethaface
Well when you hear the SVD pops you know your not hidden hehe. I think that is the good part of CMSF, you never really know how good your cover is, as it all depends from what/where you are covered. Only behind a hill in a corner of the map you are really hidden well.
