Gen. J-sun
To put it bluntly: The gunners suck. If you have a tribal or a muj team doing the shooting unless you get an elite FO rounds will likely scatter to the wind (more to the reason why I figured the untrained gunners would be on map so they could observe their fire).
akd
The first rounds fired are spotting rounds. The less skilled the FO (whoever is calling the strike), the more time and spotting rounds necessary before the fire mission starts. Played one of the stock scenarios involving an airborne unit and had the Company CO call the mission. Seems this was a mistake, as the actual mission ended up being 3 or 4 rounds. The rest of the ammo was used up on spotting.

Make sure you don't select "Emergency" strike. Emergency does not use spotting rounds and may be well off target.

Yeah it is the bad quality of the FO and the gunners. This happens also with REDFOR if you have badly trained troops or are not using a proper FO unit. Its worse with airstrikes sometimes. I had a Platoon OC call in a hind strike in the 2nd mission of the early campaign and it ended up dropping a FAB-250 on a cluster of my own infantry way off target. Nice one.
