[UFC #3] Crispy131313 (Allies) vs. Scook (Axis)

Recommended Posts

November 8, 1942

(Russia)

A finnish corps scouting in the North is killed by a Russian Tank and army. It's raining from France to the Ural mountains. Axis are staying back a bit, no doubt reorganizing. The Germans control Riga, Minsk, Kiev, Odessa, Smolensk, Kharkov.

(Middle East)

British air is fierce over Persia, tac, fighters x2 and bombers soften up the defending corps as British ground units continue the slow march. We control the oil already.

(Pacific Theatre)

The Flying Tiger's are in Burma and get a hit on Special forces on the Thailand border. The Japanese still have not made their move. China remains the same. Some minor pinging by the Japanese but nothing significant.

The Naval war has been quiet for a little while now. Things are sure to pick up soon. Some USA->USSR convoy raiding is back on the menu.

(Russia)

Winter is about to set in. A few Russian corps take defensive positions infront of Rostov, while Russian Tank recaptures the nearby mine killing German corps upon arrival. Germans are staying back from Moscow, Kursk, Leningrad for now. Russian Armour moves next to Finnish fortress. Russians in Turkey have seen no action.

(Medditerranean)

Allied Fleets make some noise around ____ a few carrier strikes and shore bombardment musters almost nothing.

(Middle East)

Countinued bombardment of Tehran. There supply is getting low, our troops are closing in on the city.

(Pacific Theatre)

Japanese crack army (Expiedition +15) is targeting the HQ north of Sian. The rest are just pings around our lines. Some minor air battling over Burma/Thailand. Flying Tigers and American fighters but heads with a parked carrier and Jap Fighter unit.

{Russia}

AGS counter attacks, takes out the tank army and a corps, recapture the Donets Basin mine. AG Center and North dig in for the winter, send a wireless message to the Finns to deal with that tank on their border.

{Med}

Hmm, what to make of this:

Med122942.jpg

Palermo is barely nicked, and it looks like USSR is giving up their ships to the Imperialist Empire. Do I take this to mean something, or just a feint? They can also shift east or west to support an invasion. Stay tuned, folks.

{Asia}

Expedition Army shifts fully north to assault the Commie Chinese corps stationed up there. Still pings happening outside Nanning. All other forces quiet.

Everything is frozen. No attacks. Russian partisans scout between Smolensk and Kursk, we spot a pair of Axis tanks behind Smolensk. After careful (and I man careful) examination of the tank sprites it's concluded that the Germans have had research success and have tanks (lv.3). Russian tanks back off from Finnish fortress for now.

{Med}

There was no counter attack in the swimming pool, which leads me to beleive I am almost if not entirely alone in these waters. Our ships spread out a bit feeling out the Axis coast. Strength 6 Italian bombers spotted in Naples, we smell a great oppurtunity and move our Carriers in for multi strikes, they get intercepted by German and Italian fighters near rome, an American corps makes landing but can't finish the job, and are left high and dry for their failure. The Bombers survive at strength 2.

Rome resists bombardment, the same for the italian corps holding Cagliari port, we spot German army guarding Albanian port, Spanish Army in Gibraltar.

{Middle East}

Persian defender eliminated by British Army. We'll walk in next turn.

{Pacific Theatre}

Japan is looking for new ways to break our lines in China. We free up some of our troops for the fight in the North. Japan has it's sights set on Malaya now, they are bombarding our supply. Only the rain holds back the carriers i'm sure. No action on Burma/Thailand front.

Some good news - Soviet Winter strikes the Axis.

Nearly 2000 views. UFC started with Rambo puttin up his money, but I'm glad to see this game is also peaking interest. It would be good to see a couple more armchair generals step up to start another thread. If not for the pure entertainment value, but to have a community of opponents to play in the future.

The good news, Soviet Winter strikes so I can repair before he can attack. Reinforcements sent to the Eastern Front, many rejoice.

{Italy}

2 strength bomber moves to make way for geared up German corps. German fighter moves so ships can't take free pot shots.

{Pacific}

Expedition Army leads way in killing Commies, one corps dies. Attacks get more intense around Nanning, we inflict 5 losses and take 1. Chungking and uhm, Sian maybe(?) are kept at 0 production. Singapore corps in a sling with 2 strength, might fall next turn.

{Russia}

Frozen again. The Germans have formed a very pretty defense line. We are set on holding ours too for now. Red Fighters ping Bulgaria's capital and muck it up with German fighters from Italy.

{Middle East}

British moves in. Persia surrenders. Stalin back stabs the British and takes control of the country

{Med}

Allied Cruisers and Battleships rough up Italian corps in Cagliara, down to 3. American corps stranded in Italy.

{China}

Spare troops continue North to fight the Japanse head on should they break through. We can't muster much on our front lines, so we dont' even try.

{Burma}

Flying Tigers pop special forces in Thailand. I'm led to believe they are there for defense instead of an attack force as I originally suspected.

{Pacific}

American Navy finally shows its face. Cruisers scout some outskirt Islands, nobody is at home in the the Solomons or Gilbert Islands. We land an army to liberate the Solomons, while a US submarine scouts the inner islands. Can't find the IJN anywhere.

Oops, was going to do screenies, eh, will wait for good weather.

{Russia}

Christmas break is almost over, heathen Communists look to destroy traditions in the near future.

{Med}

Albanian corps forgot about entirely until the money runs out, left to it's fate. American corps still onshore, but pinged by Italian corps. We refuse to leave our defensive positions for now.

{Atlantic Ocean}

I wonder how much money is being sent to Russia from the USA as I hit 50-60 MPP a turn for now. Either a) there will be a large fleet hitting my subs in the near future, or B) Allies are so rich they are using the convoy route to keep my subs a long way from the mainland and essentially, out of the way.

{Asia}

Singapore falls, use many carriers to strike the defenders, couldn't wait any longer. The morale boost the Chinese receive from liberating the Solomons and conquering Persia prevent any death and destruction of their troops.

Axis do enjoy how Uncle Joe treats Churchill, you walk into Persia, you can walk out now too, just without supply. Wonder if this would lead Western Powers to come to a separate peace with Axis that could lead to a war with Communism. Hmmmm, if only I could read the future........

{Russia}

Minor air battle over Turkish skies. The ground is beginning to thaw but in all the wrong places.

{Pacific}

The Allies continue to island hop in the Pacific, an Australian corps recaptrues Port Moresby, while an Amercian tank retakes the Gilbert Islands. We continue to scope out Islands but it's becoming predictive that they are deserted. The IJN was pretty active in demolsihing Singapore, it's safe to say a large portion of the navy must be in the waters westward.

{Med}

British corps takes control of Cagliari after shore bombardment kills the Italian on the island.

{Burma/China}

Chenneault is deployed in China. India has a decent fighting force to contribute to Burma now. Not much offensively to report.

Snow/Mud/Rain, most places. Chinese in Burma! Americans in China! Next, I expect to see dogs and cats sleeping with each other. Outside of some attacks in Russia where no one dies, nothing happens. Well, we almost kill a Chinese army near Nanning, but we aren't playing horseshoes. Next turn please.

{Russia}

Mud and mostly snow in Russia, but we can't let the Germans enjoy a free stay any longer. Russian Army, and Tank Group go on the attack near Odessa, we kill Axis Armour, damage 2 star German army on Donnets Basin mine down to 4. A few Russians advance to defend Kursk, attack a Corps on arrival. A few minor airfights where the weather allows.

{China}

Chinese corps clog up the Northern passage, but relentless Japanse bombing efforts has finally made a difference in the south. We can't fully reinforce our front line troops for the first time. Japan could start to make some ground on Chungking.

{Pacific}

American's continue to scout Pacific Islands, transports land on Japanese fortress in the Marshall Islands, and recapture the mine in Nauru.

{Atlantic}

US destroyer make contact with german sub in the middle of the Atlantic far from convoy routes.

{Europe}

Oh yeah, Norway! Ok, we go take it. They have good plunder, those lovely Norwegians. Russia, we kill the assaulting tank, and a corps because we can. Hold our positions, as mostly mud and rain still. The reason we haven't seen the tanks sooner:

German41143.jpg

Yep, USSR has JS-2's (tank 4). The Tech gods hate me, as I stay behind the ultra elite Russian forces.

{China}

We kill the understregth army outside Nanning. I do like the strategic bomber modeling in the game, its expensive, its long term, and can pay nice dividends. North is slow, for now.

Jap411432.jpg

{Burma}

We aren't moving forward, here is what we see:

Jap411433.jpg

{Central Pacific Ocean}

The Americans are fishing, and haven't got any bites. Maybe it's the bait of cruisers, subs, and old battleships.

{Russia}

A little overagression infront of Kursk sees the Russians destory their own tank group trying to demolish Axis armour. A dislikable 10-6 trade off. A few russian armies move towards the Axis lines in the Central and South and do some minor damage. In the air fighters battle from Istanbul and Ploesti. Rocket trucks deployed behind Leningrad and a tank group moves in to put some pressure on the Finnish fortress.

{China}

Northern passage completely clogged up 2 lines deep of corps now. No attacks.

{Burma}

Indian corps move to the border to face Japanese Specical forces units head to head. We don't take the first punch.

{Pacific}

Kwajalein (Marshall Islands) captured by corps. Subs and cruisers continue to feel out the islands moving forward. No naval action to report yet.

{Atlantic}

US destroyer bumps into a sub again closer to Europe. They seem to be taking defensive positions.

"Helm! Set course 315 degrees flank speed!"

"Aye Captain!"

"Jeurgen, what is it?"

"Well, Tirpitz sortied to the last know position of that destroyer contact, and found a hornet's nest."

German5432.jpg

We decide now is a good time to mix it up with the Allied navies. Once we spot the transport, that becomes our main objective. Churchill and Roosevelt should be very proud of their escorts, they occupy the subs. I run out of resources to prosecute the attack. Even though almost every casualty on the subs was from this battle, that is a very scary sight. 2 or 3 Allied ships are sunk here. Even so, the cat is out of the bag, and High Command is on alert.

Meanwhile...............

Japan51143.jpg

"Banzai!" is heard at dawn all along the Russian front. 7 months of planning is coming to fruition. Bombers knock out the rail lines of the city south of Iktursk (I hope, too far to see how much damage). 6 special forces, 2 armies, and 3 corps cross into Soviet territory. That is the sum of Manchurian garrison, along with Pacific invasion forces not taking Dutch East Indies and Phillipines. I think I want to call it Operation Ichi-Go, even though that was in Burma historically. We are now throwing caution to the wind.

China might be hurting, replacements are as forthcoming as they were before. I am almost expecting a massive shift of Chinese forces in Burma back to China (see previous post's pics for reference).

{Pacific Ocean}

Bait, meet subs, subs, meet bait. 1 American CA and BB sunk, 1 sub reduced by a DD strike. Cut bait and run, or.............?

Things are really heating up.

{Atlantic}

An absolutely massive Axis naval force pushes to dislodge our attempts to land in Britain. There are too many too try to force landings our ships back off. German subs have taken alot of damage, some fresh reinforcments should make them a bit greener.

{Russia}

The German Army is looking mighty tough to dislodge. Their troops are experienced and can kill at will. We need to find a way to break their defensive lines. No luck in Finland, our tank group is just taking damage, we back out. In the far East the Japanese will pay for their plot soon enough.

{Med}

With our reoccupation of Britain put on hold, the Allies decide to take the back door into Europe. Allies DOW Greece and strike with two British Carriers, American Army lands to vanquish the corps in Athens. We reinforce with more troops, and multiple British fighters. Stalin makes good on his promise for support and sends lv.4 Tanks to the Istanbul channel. The Germans have fought on one front long enough.

{China/Burma}

Rain in Burma. US Bombers pop Chengchow, just to let our opponent know what it feels like. Still just Japanese troops griding on ours.

{Pacific}

The IJN finally decided to toss a bone, throwing a sub and DD out to lunch. Both are at the bottom of the ocean. We continue forward taking Wake, Eniwetok, and the dual port Truk Islands.

{Atlantic}

Quiet again, for now. Many men and ships have been lost to these cold waters by both sides, and neither side is done yet.

{Russia}

We decide to take Kursk, and we do. We also decide to assault Sevastopol, with mixed results. Kill a few Soviet units, and keep ourselves in decent form.

{Balkans}

Allies threaten Bulgaria, we reinforce with some of our Strategic reserves. Rundstedt isn't looking to chew gum around Sofia.

{China/Burma}

Monsoons affect bombing from Burma to Russia, everyone is grounded this turn. Vladivostok falls, troops move to next city. Russian corps at Borzya being stubborn. Another Chinese army destroyed around Nanning, Japanese troopers picking up steam in the south as Chinese reinforcements move north to counter the threat there. American aircraft in China will eventually make this rough. Burma, kinda happy for monsoons there, keeps the Allied aircraft grounded.

{Pacific}

1st carrier strikes by the Japanese result in 2 BBs sunk. I make a huge mistake, the grey ships of minors blends into the background for me, so don't see the CA De Ruyter sitting there, able to spot one of my BB. Think I might get my eyes checked for color blindness. Hmm, maybe I will play with settings to make them more visible to me.

{other}

Anyone have any good books about the Japanese and their war effort? I find it very easy to slide into the thought processes of every nation except Japan, and to an extent, China. I find playing with passion makes me a better player. Any titles would be appreciated.

There is much less written on the Japan war than German. The book above is a good read. 10 scenarios listed. all looking at different directions, weapons or tactics the japanese could have employed. only 1 is a viable war winner that does not rely on american mistakes. the other 9 would have been either minor or sometimes major war extenders and may or may not have resulted in a more favourable outcome for Japan.

i lived in Japan for 3 years and have read a lot on the subject even met some Jap veterans, certainly lots of Japanese who remember growing up with nothing left. While losing millions of people, having all your cities wiped out or nuked and being occupied for 7 years can hardly be considered "lucky" it could have been a lot worse. That worse is mostly the USSR.

{Europe}

Oh it's nice to finally post Europe. Allied reinforcements move into Greece, we move our fighters to the south coast. British and American army's kill a German corps blocking the way to Sofia. British and New Zealand corps take position next to the city. Russians move in from Istanbul, kill Bulgarian army with tank. Corps and paras make their way into Bulgaria.

{Med}

Allied Navy switches their attention to Sicily in the form of shore bombardment, and Carrier strikes. We knock entrenchment out and get 1 hit, the city is supply 5.

{Russia}

Russian fighters hit German tac air near Smolensk. No major offensives within the country.

{Atlantic}

US Destroyers make a u-turn back towards Britain, the wolf packs seem to have dissapeared. We find one mid-strength and kill it.

{China/Burma}

Rain continues in Burma, and over American air in China. Not much the chinese can do but try to hold their positions.

{Pacific}

Our Cruiser next to the Japanese battleship must be painted blue as it's spared in the Pacific. US Sub moves in, the cruiser finishes the easy kill. More hopping, we capture Rabul.

Columbia joins the fight.

Trying to edit screenies, decide I need Photoshop. Paint is too archaic, and no multi-levelling. Want to show a lot without giving up too much info. I am giving up some, but that's ok. We have one year to go on the over/under.

July 4, 1943

{The Atlantic}

I figured the troop ships were just dilly dallying out in ocean. They have come too far to turn back. Tirpitz is first to action again, and runs smack dab into a transport. We sink 2.9 transports, and 1 DD. Wolf pack has had almost divine intervention luck, hoping for more. Sidenote, last turn was the 1st German sub sunk.

German70443.jpg

{Russia}

There comes a time to go all in, and that time is now. We push forward, some troopers die, and we get lucky and smash a fighter on the ground. Leningrad, Moscow, Voronezh, and Rostov all can be threatened, depending on what I and my opponent want to do.

German704432.jpg

{Balkans}

Our fighters ground strike the British fighters, and then one comes up to defend a fighter hitting a unit. One fighter down, one corps down, Bulgarian corps advances as Tigers roll into Sofia.

German704434.jpg

{Sicily}

Allied Ships pounding the coast hard. I smell another invasion here. Would show you, but limited to 5 screenshots per post.

{Mainland China}

More pinging, Strategic bombing working very well against the poor Chinese. Able to slowly kill and no reinforcements in my face. Burma is raining (imagine that!) again. The American presence in the air is very noticeable, but not a telling factor......yet.

Japan70443.jpg

{Russian/Manchurian Border}

Fighter for Soviets in Irkutsk is a freebie because I invaded, gets into a skirmish as I keep the rail lines interdicted. Cities looking prime to fall here, as German pressure on the other side will make it hard pressed to pull units to this front.

Japan704432.jpg

{Pacific Ocean}

Hiryu sinks a sub we have been following for 6 months, decide now is a good time. We also catch a transport closing in on another island. We are playing cat and mouse, and slowly the mice on both sides are being eaten.

Next turn will give the strategic reports.

{Europe}

It's good to be back home. The Axis navy tried ferociously to keep us away from Britain but we make it back and release the coastal town of Bristol from German occupation. Axis Submarines past right by the very Carriers that leveled the defenders, opting to strike our tranpsorts instead. Bradley assumes Command for the second battle of Britain. Some naval action but we mostly decide to keep our naval force full strength.

The Guderian tank group is heavlily assaulted defending Bulgaria, we thought we had a good chance of occupying the city but come up short. Red Fighters, mutli tac-air strike from inside Turkey, aided by British carriers but the Russian tank group blows it and can't finish the job.

Bombardment of Sicily continues from the sea, and now British bombers in Libya get involved.

{China/Burma}

Burma - Rain rain go away... In China fresh reinforcments are coming in, we fill an important whole near Chungking. Chinese tank group attacks special forces in the north, does 3 hits, takes 2.

{Russia}

Germans want to mash it out, we deliver. German army dies near Rostov, and an Army and Tank near Moscow. More Russians continue to poor in. We take casualties but there are hungry russians waiting to pick up their guns of their fallen commrades.

Japanese continue to overun us in the far east. Not much I can at the time being.

{Pacific}

Quiet this turn.

[Manchurian/Soviet border]

Even armed with the best the IJA has to offer, our men resort to World War I tactics, grinding down our opponent. All our troops against two corps result in pinging. Thank the Emperor for our bombers, without those this would be a lost cause.

[China/Burma]

Looks like monsoon season is over, we brace for impact near Burma. Slogging now in Northern China, but favorable pinging around Nanning. No movement though.

[Pacific Ocean]

It's all gone cold. I now play the guessing game as to what my opponent is up to.

[Atlantic/Britain]

As much as it pains me, I withdraw as many troops as possible to the mainland. With the Allied naval superiority, the fight for the island would be extremely one-sided, so the correct decision is to fight on the continent. We are call Landers for a reason!

[balkans]

General Guderian is killed in the bombing assault on Sofia. He is awarded a Knight's Cross, posthumously. We allow replacements for the tank group to come from locals, so we rename the unit, Sofia Tank Group. Goering is recognized, his swift decision to move so many fighters into the area is the only reason Sofia holds out. Fighters bomb a Soviet tank out of existence, strip both carriers of any offensive assets, and help destroy a British Army. Romanian and Spanish fighters prove their worth in this arena too. We do have to withdraw 2nd Luflotte from Italy, too much shore bombardment is hurting.

[Eastern Front]

We push back, Rostov falls, a tank and army vanish. We do fail on our ground strikes to eliminate another Soviet fighter, but he has to be hurting. Blood is flowing like rivers all along the front.

[strategic Reports]

Just going to report, no comments needed.

{Europe}

Scook wasn't kidding about abandoning Britain, a corps holds a port near London and will make it back. We reoccupy Manchester and London. The Allied forces in Greek are better be in for it, because The Axis forces seem content on running us straight back into the Mediterranean Sea. We just reinforce our positions. Stalin sends another Tank group to the Istanbul channel.

{Russia}

The above Chart posted by Scook may be misleading, as 14! new Russian units land on the map. Our front lines totally reinforced we prepare for a big fight. Corps killed near advancing towards Maikop.

{China}

American bombers from Lanchow target Peking and do some unknown damage. US/Jap fighters beat it out in the sky. Supply shortages have ended in China, everyone is getting full reinforcements.

{Burma}

It's sunny over there in Thailand. To bad our planes are still wet.

{Pacific/Atlantic}

Quiet oceans. One more Island captured in the Pacific.
