EMIG
I'm running CMAK on an eMachines M5312 laptop under Windows 98 SE. The only options it gives me for resolution are 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768. The game looks a bit chunky at 1024x768. Is there any way to make it come up at 1280x800? I've installed the latest driver for the ATi IGP 320M graphics chip. The downloaded file has a God awful name: wme-catalyst-7-962-031202m1-012924c.exe. I'm not in Windows ATM, so I can't check the driver versions in Control Panel.
farmerch
no way you can get to 1280x800 with that. you would need to set the resolution of your windows higher before playing, but you can't due to your limited options on the laptop.
Schrullenhaft
Your laptop display probably performs some 'scaling' of video resolutions to get them to display full-screen on the LCD. This may be the cause of the 'chunkiness' of the display. The 1280x800 is the 'native' resolution where everything appears sharp in Windows. Anything else gets 'scaled' which can make lines and text appear 'chunky'. I'm not sure your built-in Radeon Mobility chip supports 1280x800 as a Direct3D supported resolution. If your desktop is set to that resolution already and it isn't offered by CMAK (when there's no Prefs file present), then it may not be available to DirectX games, thus limiting you to a maximum of 1024x768. The eMachines laptop is a bit odd in its max resolution. 1280 (horizontal) is standard, but 800 (vertical) is a bit non-standard. If that went to 960 or 1024, then you probably would have had one more resolution to pick from. But this doesn't appear to be the case with the eMachines display.
EMIG
I tried an even newer driver and still no 1280x800 direct x choice. I guess I'm screwed when I'm on the road. The reason for the odd resolution is this laptop's screen is extra wide.
