dieseltaylor
Uma Thurman's recent flick, "Motherhood," was dead on arrival at the box office -- raking in an inconceivable $131 at its London opening. The Oscar-nominated actress slew more people in her "Kill Bill" series of flicks than bothered to show for the debut of the movie at the Apollo West End in Piccadilly Circus -- a mere dozen, according to a report in The Guardian newspaper. On Sunday, just one soul decided to fork over $13 to see the Katherine Dieckmann-directed film, the paper reported. Here's what viewers were in store for: "Shot entirely on location in New York's West Village, this bittersweet comedy distills the dilemmas of the maternal state (marriage, work, self, and not necessarily in that order) into the trials and tribulations of one pivotal day." Way to go!! http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/london_mauling_for_uma_8KdG0bJEqH9zeFOUFmodYL
Michael Emrys
So does the movie actually suck or is it just being given an undeserved bad rap? Michael
dieseltaylor
Wikipedia answers all : Synopsis Motherhood is a comedy written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann, and stars Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards and Minnie Driver. Shot on location in New York’s West Village, focuses on the dilemmas of motherhood, such as marriage, work, and self, shown in the trials and tribulations of one pivotal day. [edit] Reception The film received generally negative reviews; only 9 out of 45 professional critics (20%) sampled by Rotten Tomatoes reacted positively.[3] The film premiered in London at a single cinema: the Apollo Piccadily Circus. The box office gross was £88 on its opening weekend; only eleven viewers purchased a ticket, with only one person attending its first showing.[4] The producers have attributed this to the fact the film received a simultaneous DVD release in the UK, in what they called "experimenting with new release models".

If that is so and not just spin doctoring, the movie may not be all that bad. Might be a good idea to wait for more reaction to come in before we write it off as an outright loser. Affentitten
I think Kill Bill was probably a more entertaining Uma Thurman take on marriage, motherhood, work and self.
dieseltaylor
Uma Thurman looks frumpy in "Motherhood." This is the only pressing reason to see it. Usually she looks goddessy, even in movies where she is not playing a goddess, so it's nice to know she can also come across like a mere mortal. Playing Eliza, a harried mother of two in New York's West Village, Thurman is immensely likeable, and so is Minnie Driver, playing Eliza's best friend. But too much of this comedy, written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann, seems like a pilot for a sitcom – a so-so sitcom. Eliza is a compulsive blogger, and the film follows one day in her harried, multitasking life. I'm not pining for Day 2. Grade: B- (Rated PG-13 for language, sexual references and a brief drug comment.)Bizarrely this CSM review is valued at a positive 67% oN Metacritic - Wtf! ME - Here is another aggregating site for comments with the original grading. Fairly consistent so I don't think I need to reserve judgement further! : ) http://www.mrqe.com/movies/m100069680
Thomm
... distills the dilemmas of the maternal state (marriage, work, self, and not necessarily in that order) into the trials and tribulations of one pivotal day. Basically a movie for women to entertain themselves over the misery of other women. I think the discussion is best left to them. Best regards, Thomm
