Stratos
Do you think that CM:BO or CM:AK can make a good job on Market Garden scenarios? Is there any infantry unit that can destroy bridges in those games? I will like to adapt some old Close Combat 2 scenarios for BO, but need to know If the german player will be able to blow the bridges the allied need to take. Any other ideas to simulate landing zones and bridges as objectives?
John Kettler
Stratos, Since the CM series lacks the classic bridge demolition, there are three basic approaches: one based on a padlocked TRP on the bridge and heavy artillery, the second on demo charges hurled onto the bridge and the third using direct fire HE. Here's a great thread on two of the methods. http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=39887 Landing zones may be simulated by defining setup zones, arrival times (initially there or show up later as reinforcements), and a suitable chaos factor in the drop may be introduced by applying a casualty factor to the paratroops, who should be scattered-scattered a lot and intermixed on the drop zone. You create objectives in CM by assigning a VL flag to the location, with the points corresponding to the objective's importance. To see some of this done right, please contact jwxspoon (jeff@jwxspoon.com) and ask him for the improved version of the amazing Squeezing the Melon (played initial version in ROW IV). This'll show you what can be done and how. Meanwhile, here are his designer's notes. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=3214&highlight=squeezing+the+melon And here's my AAR from ROW IV, Squeezing the Melon, which used CMAK as an improved form of CMBO. http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:3AksA9FylCgJ:bootsandtracks.com/AARFiles/StM_27.pdf+row+iv+squeezing+the+melon+aar&hl=en&gl=us&sig=AHIEtbRjknSzsvK2j0Ae8t2-61HAnRKrqQ Good luck! John Kettler
Stratos, Combat engineers/pioneers are the ones who can throw demo charges, normally used for mine clearing. Be sure to target the bridge itself and not the approaches! Regards, John Kettler
Malaspina
Hi John, sounds like a very interesting scenario. I didn't read through due to the many spoilers. Do you have a link? Can't find it at the Scenario depotII. Do B&T still have a site? enrico
John Kettler
Malaspina, The site Boots and Tracks is long gone, but lives on in the Internet Wayback Machine. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://bootsandtracks.com/ To get the scenario, though, just contact jwxspoon, as shown above. He designed it. Regards, John Kettler

John Kettler
Malaspina, You're welcome! It'll definitely test your mettle. Recommend you use a bright explosion mod so you can see where your fire support's hitting. The map's very large and the weather's not pretty, making it hard to see where support fires are landing.
