Damian90
I feel strange when reading such words about my person. ;-) Some nice pics from my collection.
Damian90
Leclerc armor LOS thickness estimation. Impressive.
Pešadija
Since this fine thread is gonna hit 300 soon anyway, why not devote it to cool tank pics, Damian? We need some eye candy all up in this bee-atch!
Damian90
Not bad idea, besides this good pics can also reveal something about armor protection and not only, I will add some more today but later.
militarysta
Alex in that topick: http://otvaga2004.mybb.ru/viewtopic.php?id=300&p=5 you can sent to Wiedzmin that his estimates for hull are correct - in Leclerck ther is fuel tank inside front armour, sandwiched between the layers of armor - so this part is realy that tick. But his estimates for turret are underestimated: inner wall in turret Leclerck Serie XXI looks rather that: I made obvious mistake for mask of course! - You need to be aware of it! So LOS for Leclerck Turret looks rather that: ps.od course I don't mesure Leclerck by myself - like Leo2A4 with 84cm front LOS (-sorry, I can't stop myself after wiedźmin "65cm LOS in Leo2A4 ,65cm,65cm bla bla bla"). best regards form Poland :-)
Damian90
As we have drawing for Leclerc, here is M1A1/A2, currently however my talent for making drawings is poor. Besides this there can be still some minor errors. I will later try made ones for Challenger 1 and Challenger 2 if I find good enough drawings. I would also like to ask for help everyone that is good mathematic and can do corrections + his own estimations. it is allways good to have other, different opinions and made better conclusions. Here are photos, my drawing is based on them. + good articles about T-72B/BA. In Russian. http://otvaga2004.narod.ru/xlopotov_8/tank_t72ba_01.htm
Damian90
Challenger 1, as we can see, armor was very well designed. Challenger 2, sorry for bad quality.
Pešadija
Would there be internal pics with electronics in place, so we can have an idea of how much space the fighting compartment offers?
Damian90
For Challenger 1 I have pics. But You must wait, I need to scan them. For CR2 You have this: http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/fighting-vehicles/1475.aspx# Choose 360 view and there will be option to see interior if You click on a tank.
Pešadija
Niiiiice. Nifty army site! The italian's army sucks.
Pešadija
Woah, there's a buttload of space there. I understand now how important it is to chill when you suffer a mobility kill and drink some tea with your pals.
Damian90
Haha, wait untill You see Challenger 1 interior, it was real bad lady for crew. You will then understand why Challenger 2 have completely new turret and redesigned hull.
Pešadija
So, the seat near is the hatch is obviously the commander's. Is the one on the right the gunner's and the one on the left the loader's?
Damian90
Right side of turret is occupied by TC (Tank Commander) and at front and below sits gunner, left side is occupied by operator (loader) as Brits call that speciality. In hull at the front and center sits driver.
Damian90
And here it is Challenger 1 interior and at factory line with Chieftain's.
Damian90
Last two pics.
Pešadija
So yeah, as I thought. The 360° view thing is AWESOME. Every military in the world should make top priority to implement it! Looking at the AS90 SPG now!
Damian90
I can guarantee You that vehicles were stripped from some equipment before they made that 360 view. British Army have small obsesion about OPSEC and their secrets. I suppose that US.Army and USMC also do this when they show interior of their best toys.
Pešadija
I know, of course, they can't just lay certain things out for everyone to see. But I'm especially interested in the driver's seat, since I'm practicing to get my driver's licence these days. Wanted to compare, for the day I'll buy a T-72 from tanksforsale.
Damian90
Modern western tanks are rather easy to drive... Russian/Ukrainian tanks contrary, but IRCC T-84M Oplot-M hyave a western style driver station and controls.
Pešadija
Mmmmh. And what's up with the difficulty? What makes them harder to drive? You activate pedals with your armpits, perhaps?
Damian90
Western tanks have automatic transmission, eastern manual, western tanks mostly have steering wheels or T-bars like in cars or bikes, same with pedals. Also ergonomics are better. While in eastern tanks You have steering levers it is harder to steer by them. Also comfort, something that driver of T-xx series can't have.
Pešadija
STEERING LEVERS? I thought that was absolutely obsolete stuff. Last I've seen it it was a Bud Spencer movie.
Damian90
This is how it looks in T-xx series (it is simulator however): Leopard 2 series:
