Helppp Game very corrupted

Recommended Posts

Good evening. I have installed the spanish version of this game published by friendware. I have installed the uber patch, but the game when i try play is corrupted, the graphics are corrupted. I have a AMD dual core 3800+ and four modules of kingstom hypermemory 1024 megas each one, and a ATI 4670graphic card by Asus. The S.O is windows XP with service pack 3 installed.

I have just installed the latest drivers of Ati catalist 9.4

Thanks for the help that you could give me; I wanna play with my game, before the ATI i had a Geforce 8600gt and the game ran,now with the ATI crash.:(

I selected on control panel "use aplication settings" for Antialising and turn off the adaptive antialising, and when i play a scenary where is raining the game is less corrupted and when play a sunny scenary the game is a dance of big shadders on the screen, it´s impossible play with that problem.

I try with all variations on video menu of the game, only one CPU or without shaders, or less detail, but nothing. Please i need a solution.

Same observation here. Graphics are entirely corrupted after the battle is loaded. TOW2, on the other hand, works. I recently installed Catalyst 9.3, so this issue might be driver related, perhaps some incompatibility of TOW with new catalyst drivers, which does not occur in TOW2. System: XP32 SP3

yes, it is the latest ATI drivers causing the problems. With 9.2 it worked OK but had to turn shadows to NONE as they were offset to much from the objects. 9.3 causes the large amount of glitches you experienced. I roled mine back to 9.1 and all seems good; however, having to roll back is not acceptable so hopefully the next version will straighten out the issue.

Same trouble.. My new Dell, has the 4800 series driver. Have just updated to the latest driver, which will at least lunch the game..But- playing is another matter. Screen going 'nuts' with picture breaking up all over the place.

Thing is on my old Dell, which had the old Radeon driver that was discontinued, all worked fine. But once again in the infinite wisdom of AMD, have brought one out that doe's not work.

Hoping that perhaps there new 9.5 version will fix it.. But, I am not holding out much hope on that.

Like you Guys and Gals if there are any, all works fine with the new TOW2.. Amazing..

Hello everyone. I finally got this game after following it for the last few years. Thought it would replace Close Combat, after playing that for several years. Just got a new computer, and a new ati 4670 from NewEgg. Tossed the game in; and same as you guys. Graphic streaks and misplaced shadows that make some battles unplayable. Anybody get a fix ? I ve tried just about everything. Thanks for any replies.

Hope you can fix our problem.. as I love this program like all of us I;m sure...

ToW2 uses Direct3D instead of OpenGL for rendering for many reasons, one of them is the Ati OpenGL fluctuating support, because of this ToW2 works in your case and ToW1 doesn't. Over the years there was a number of Catalyst releases with broken OpenGL compatibility and eventually it was fixed in later drivers, this is not the first time. We can't write proper drivers for Ati videocards and we don't know how to, it's their work.

Don't think that we are indifferent to your problems, we are deeply concerned with such issues, but the only solution is to wait for a driver wich handles OpenGL properly or rollback to previous working version.

Hi JJ Van..

Here is the Radeon driver name that I was using on my old Dell before she 'blew'.. It was a Radeon X800 XT series, with the driver updated every few months until ATI turned into AMD.. They then stopped any support for that driver, but that was no big deal, as TOW had been 100% until the 'big bang' with the computer.

Trouble is, I don;t know were, if at all, you could find that driver now.. I would be only to pleased to give you my old, but I know that has 'blown' big time on the old Dell. So that would not be any good I am afraid to you right now..

I confirm that the new 4800 series driver 9.5, on my NEW (YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!) Dell, is worse then 9.4!! on this so called state of the art Driver for the space age..

About time someone at AMD pulled their finger out, and sorted this thing out.. Not at all happy right now, I can tell you..

Hope you have better luck then me bucko...

Toddle Pip.. :(

Thank you 'Sneaksie' for your very prompt reply..

You conformed what I always though with the OpenGL. as you can see from my posts, the NEW driver from AMD, is more then useless.. worse then the 9.4, at least with that I had about two seconds before the picture went 'nuts', now it does that straight away, as soon as the picture appears.. big improvement? yea right.. bloody useless, that's what.

I have sent complaints to AMD, describing the problem.. But no reply.. They must be having there cup of coffee and a doughnut..

Just a question for you.

Why did you use OpenGL, and not Direct3D in the first place, when evidence has shown before on many other games that Open GL is a pain in the you know were...

Maddox games, famous for IL2 series, gave you the choice of using either Direct3D, or OpenGL.. At least they give you the option of which one to use for whoever s system .

Is it not possible to make a patch, converting to Direct3D, instead of OpenGL.. I am sure there are many other poor souls out there, that are suffering, but have not said so..

You can see but the many.many posts on YouTube, how popular TOW is...

I really appreciate your time, and efforts on this, as we all do I know.. In actual fact, I know there are a few 'pints' standing by for you at the local pub/bar/watering hole etc....

I found cat 9-2 for Vista 32 works. You have to turn off shadows, but at least you dont get all the graphic glitches. Thanks for everyones help. Hope this helps someone as well. Now I just got to learn how to play ;)

ToW project branched off IL2 long ago. OpenGL was supported because back in these times it was well supported by drivers, sometimes even better than Direct3D. Now situation completely changed so it took several months to switch to Direct3D in ToW2.

I would love to see ToW on updated engine myself, but this means tons of work since map and unit format was changed, not completely, but this effectively means that transferring them is comparable to creating a new one. Authors of JSH mod plan to rework some ToW models to ToW2 format, but they'll go for several popular units, i presume, while others, especially exotic ones, will remain in ToW.

I did try that, but my new system that has the old XP, as I requested that instead of the Vista, which I have on my laptop (and TOW works on that, but everything is set to 'min', giving me a 6 -8 frame rate. That uses a GE driver.. but at least it works!!)

The reason I had the XP pro installed, is because when I first got my laptop, which came with the Vista, it gave me nothing but trouble (meaning Vista), so after reloading Vista 3-yes 3 separate times from scratch, with the Dell technical (?) rep, I swore never to have Vista again.

So when I ordered my new desktop, I only bought it on the understanding that it have the XP pro version, which I now have, and used to have, without all this headache with Vista.

For your info, it is a Dell XPS 625, which I love, but for the fact I cannot get TOW...

I did try and download the 9.2 Catalyst, but for whatever reasons, it does not seem to like that, and won't except my attempt to change from what it already has. So as I am very careful, with what I do with these computers now, after my laptop disasters, I am leaving alone.. I think you can understand my logic there..

Thanks for the interest on my problem 'Sneaksie', don't worry, there are not any bridges around here deep enough.. I just hope that AMD change there way of thinking, and READ my complaints, and DO something about there drivers..

In the meantime

Toddle Pip..

Can you guys tell me if this is the exact same problem as I am having?

tow20090630.jpg

I just opened up the game again after 2 years, to see whether the Uber Patch made it worth my time. So far I've been disappointed. Though it's possible the fault lies with ATI for not making good OpenGL support. It's still very bad. I didn't enjoy TOW in 2007 for completely different reasons - gameplay related (enemy could see through foliage and had laser precision).

Now I am having technical problems that I never had back then - but I had a Nvidia card back then.

The computer I'm on is

Intel Extreme QX6700

2gb ram

ATI 4870X2

Asus Strike Extreme (nforce 680i)

Thanks

Well, the problem returns with 9.8 Catalyst. If you want to play TOW, don't install 9.8.

My spec:

AMD X4 Phenom II 945

8 GB Ram

Ati Radeon 4890 1 GB

Windows Server 2008 R2 Evaluation (It's like Windows 7 ...it uses the same driver).

Tow runs but graphic....no comment.

Has anyone the same problem with 9.8?
