Arc Suggestion

Recommended Posts

In some future CMx2 release it'd be really handy to have the arc be a gradient that represents the combat effectiveness ( in general terms) of the unit as the distance gets greater.

Perhaps for a tank that combat effectiveness is 500m before it begins to degrade.

But that gradient would at least let you be smart without having to refer to a chart to see range:effectiveness metrics for a unit.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, 500m for tanks is considered "close combat" when its tank vs tank ewen in swedish terrain. average combat distance is up to 2000m and the gun is zeroed on 1200m...

so 500?

Well, against what? Say an infantry squad, the AT-4's would be able to damage a BMP out to their 200m (?) at a lessening probability, whereas the small arms would still kill soldiers out to 500, the MG's out to 1000, the Javelin out to 5k - oh that could kill the BMP and any other AVF, except maybe a T90.

A mortar would kill infantry from it's minimum to maximum range unless they had some kind of overhead protection. etc. etc.

It's too complex a problem to be presented in a simple way on an arc, it would have to be on a case by case basis. Because of that I'd love something like CM1's chance-to-damage under the targeting cursor. I thought that worked very well.

My only request for the arc is a simple one: a hotkey that allows the user to turn it off its visual depiction. At the moment any unit with an arc is automatically displayed the moment you select the unit, and I find the sickly yellow hue a distraction that I can do without.

Too many variables for such an arc to make sense, Medlinke. Effective with what weapon, with which ammunition type and against what target? Results would differ so wildly it would be unusable even as a general guideline, IMHO.

It's perhaps a bit newby unfriendly but I think the new player will just have to learn weapon efficiency from use and observation.
