kevinkins
Are any US troops inserted by paratroop anymore? Perhaps only quiet special forces ops? If you wanted to get an air controller on to a small high value target - how would it done quickly? Kevin

kevinkins
But we hear of few air mobile ops. ... Para drops even less. Kevin
SgtMuhammed
Large slow transports vs SAMs = lots of dead paratroopers. There were a couple drops during OIF and A-stan but if there is any sort of real AA defense then it is suicide. HALO drops can put guys several miles away and let them reach the target in freefall. A guy falling through the air is a lot less noticable than a big fat C-series aircraft.
reel-why
are there any recorded HALO insertions? On some level I kinda thought that just showed up in action movies and videogames. It seems ya know...almost too cool for reality.
tc237
An airdrop of the 173rd Airborne Brigade secured Bashur airfield near Kirkuk in OIF. A company of M1's from 1ID was airlifted in over the next few days. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2004/onpoint/ch-4.htm#173abn A Ranger unit airdropped into an airfield in western Iraq. From globalsecurity.com "The US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment captured H1 airfield in a night-time parachute assault on 25 March 2003" Also a team of M1's was airlifted to help the Rangers. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2004/onpoint/ch-5.htm Look for: JSOTF-West and TEAM Tank
Ryanwtod
Most of the people who do HALO jumps are the special ones. Alot of them don't even "exist" so I doubt that they would be making videos of their missions since they "never happened" and nobody was ever there
