  1. Cool, I'm impressed that BF modeled that in. I'm pretty sure thats the ingame pattern.
  2. I find that the bradley has one of the most recognizable guns in the game. If one is firing on the map, you always know. That *phht* sound is very distinct. I'm also noticing that they often fire in the same pattern. One round then a momentary pause followed by a sequence of rounds. If I played drums or something I'm sure there's a way to write it out. Does anyone know why this is? Do real bradley's fire in a similar manner? Is it inherent in the weapons design or a gunner's training? Just curious and thought some of the hardware savvy folk round here might know something about it.
  3. This is actually really interesting! I don't bother watching alot of this "direct from warzone" footage because its so frequently weird snuff garbage. But this seems like some good stuff, and whoevers handling the camera is actually paying some sort of attention. Suddenly seeing my troops stumble through rooms in CMSF doesn't seem so bizzare.
  4. its a nice change from the regular screen. can that be displayed in the main menu too? if so where do I need to stick that image file?
  5. So I'd like to be able to solve this problem myself but my secondary computer won't run CMSF with the new patch. I'm just looking for some kind of sum-up, what works right now? What doesn't? Does PBEM fuction? Does RT work online or TCIP? Has WEGO been successful for anybody? Its not that I mind hotseat, its just that I'm running out of books to read while my opponent makes their move.
  6. What happens if the battlefront patch is applied to the paradox version? I don't think I'm brave enough to try, but it does seem strange that there has to be multiple versions. Just curious, does anyone know why that is?
  7. my god, you're kidding me. I thought BF games had to be ugly? The knock down from 1.03 to 1.04 made sense in that light but now... I am enshrined in a warm halo of lights Can't wait.
  8. Its still plenty amusing...even when it should be frustrating. I've never seen a taxicab in my games. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention.
  9. I'm pretty sure Battlefront stated somewhere that General is a combination of Infantry and Armor rounds. So some air burst and some impact the ground. Which makes sense in my mind against a building. On a side note, has anyone seen arty strike a really high 6 to 9 story building? Can it hit the top floors? Maybe I'll give that a try
  10. I've been using face to organize troops in a line and its worked reasonably well. I think the smoke thing might work well if you split your teams and have each pop smoke. Although I'm not sure all infantry teams have enough grenades for that. I've done it with one of the HQ or specialty squads though. Or alternately you could always just take the hollywood option. Tell your troops to book it as fast as they can over the ridgeline so the heroic team leader and spray wildly on full auto. Works like a charm everytime.
  11. There it is!! Oh wait...nope I was wrong. Thats just another complaint thread. I'm counting on 1.05 being my "finished exams" xmas gift to myself. So as long as it's up by the 18th I'm happy
  12. I've noticed it a few times and used it to my unwholesome advantage. It's something that is a little irritating, but has never been a major issue for me. I mean if you feel its really innaccurate, you can choose not to target areas where your troops are going. Does FF apply from vehicle small arms? I know heavy guns and artillery and that FF still applies, but if I have an abrams target light and spray down an area, with infantry be affected?
  13. I don't think we as forum users really appreciate how unique our situation is. The fact that we even hear from the developers at all, the fact that we know their first names is a fantastic rarity in this industry. The idea of feedback, that things we as players find and ask for gets (sometimes) integrated into the next incarnation of the game is incredible. I've been involved with a few other gaming sites (the s.t.a.l.k.e.r. forums for example) that while they have a large and helpful community have very limited contact with developers. So thanks BFC for showing up and listening to what we have to say. And this community makes a great research paper for university virtual community courses.
  14. So 12 insurgent casualties have been verified, and at least two children have died. The taleban were claiming several APC destroyed but the Brits and the Afghan army have said thats not true. I'm still really curious about the US involvement in that there were helicopters and it was at night. Sounds like some serious cloak and dagger action flick stuff going on. Interesting note about the children: they "were killed when security forces clashed with Taleban travelling in a convoy with civilians, a spokesman for the Afghan defence ministry said." -BBC What do you suppose that means? Sneaking out? Holding hostages? I didn't know civilians regularly traveled in convoys, but I suppose it makes sense.
  15. And thats why (as a journalism student) I never watch FOX or CNN. I stick to BBC with some AFP or Reuters thrown in. Newswire services are way more up to date. Interesting thing I found while looking for coverage: There was an airstrike on the town on Dec 3 in which the US claimed a major Taleban leader had been killed. Sounds like this is a quick follow-up while their command is down. I saw a different quote marking 2500 taleban fighters, so it seems no one has a very good idea.
  16. And I'm curious about that "body count of 30" from earlier. "The Taleban say they have 2,000 troops defending the town in Helmand province, which they seized in February." -BBC I wouldn't necessarily trust that count, but it implies more than just a room full of bearded dudes. There's also some substantial minefields set up around the town. "Friday's attack by British and Afghan forces began in the afternoon, from three directions. Further raids are expected to be carried out on Saturday." -BBC So is it over now? I don't know the time difference well enough. I noticed they removed the information about US helicopters, perhaps they were saying more than they should have.
  17. Wow, you guys are really intense into this. I'm really more interested to hear about the tactical maneuvers coming out of this afghanistan operation. BBC was saying US troops are leading via helicopter insertion. Does anyone know if that means rope? or landing nearby? I'm curious to know who's involved. Pretty sure there's some british forces in addition to the stateside troops. Any other NATO countries involved?
  18. I think that the quick exhaustion from crawling is legitimate. Its not really something you expect to do over a long range and it seems pretty strenuous. I find that troops recuperate quicker if their not worn down. So short leaps with rests in between works well, everybody regroups and stops for a few seconds. Also, does anybody ever use fast as a movment type? Seems their exhausted or dead if their taking any sort of fire, and I cant really see any other situation you'd need a unit to sprint unless they were under attack.
  19. I gave it another shot and your right. I still think the scenario would benefit by starting your troops outside of a firezone
  20. So I have to confess I didn't make it all the way through. After having my artillery fall off the map twice, and realizing my troops were completely unable to spot opponents of the rooftops next to them I gave up. Most of these are really just issues with CMSF rather than map issues. One thing that would add a bunch of enjoyment and wouldn't be that difficult is to cover your deployment positions. Just a dip in elevation would mean that the troops don't get lit up in the empty field. I really liked the night mission, and the little park was a neat change from so many city maps chock full of buildings but with no greenery whatsoever. I think the layout is well in that the buildings sort of arc upwards across the map.
  21. Downloading now, and I've actually got some time to play through. I'll post a full review/opinions when I'm done. Do NV goggles appear on the models? I've only played a few night missions so I haven't looked.
  22. I don't know why that is, but I would suspect they are primarily designed to be scenario specific weapons. That when a battle is created the designer decides "there should be an IED on one of these roads" and places one. If you had them in quick battle where would you use them? They can only be deployed in your zone and it could be a long while before any enemy troops are moving against your edge of the map.
  23. splitting the mout squad would work I guess. thanks.
