Panzerfest
First off Im having a blast getting my ass kicked by the AI.... Thats until seemingly randomly the game freezes up. 3 games have ended in 2 ctrl/alt/del's and one with a hard re-start. One of these was when i used the zoom (z) key and i believe this one ended with the re-start. the other two were while scrolling around the map. I'll continue playing and keep you posted. 1)Battlefront version (1.01 right?) 2)AMD Athlon 64 X2 duel core 3800+ @ 2.02Ghz 3)Radeon X1900 512mb Driver Version = 8.252-060503a-032464C-ATI 4)2gig RAM 5)XP media edition 6)see above
Schrullenhaft
Do you have the AMD Dual Core Optimizer patch installed ? I'm not sure if it will fix your problem, but it does make a difference with a number of applications (including some OpenGL graphic applications like Google Earth).
Madmatt
Try The AMD Optimizer (linked above) first but if that doesnt work the programer said that one of our testers got this same issue before and the workaround was to disable his second core on his CPU. I dont have the process to give to you to do that right now but it should be easy enough to find. We are also going to investigate a better, more seamless solution to this issue, assuming what your encountering is what we think it is. KnockOnWood
Ive got almost exactly the same specs as the guy above except i run on vista ultimate 32bits and i get the same crashes. Got the optimizer and ive tried disabling the the second cpu even before i looked here but it still doesnt work. Im going to investigate further... /matte
ACTOR
Hi all. I can start the game and get to the point where it is time to give orders and then the game will stop responding. I have tried (10) times now and I finally reached my frustration point. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate Pentium 4 - 3.8ghz 2 gig of RAM Radeon X850 Vid Card ATI Drivers from March of 2007 Just an update - I downloaded the latest ATI drivers (July 19, 2007) and installed. Same issue - I can start a Quick Battle (all program deafult settings) and just sit in the Set Up phase for a couple of minutes and it freezes up and ends the program. I need some help... Thanks, Bill [ July 27, 2007, 02:05 PM: Message edited by: ACTOR ]
Panzerfest
Okay updated my driver, and finished one saved game no problem. Started a largish scenario (the red on red city fight, awesome!!) 10mins in and it looked as tho it had crashed, I started hitting ctrl/alt/del- nothing. Tried alt/escape and the background sound stopped and I got a windows cursor that I could move around the bottom of my screen.. played around for a bit more then left it for 30secs and it slowly started working again... almost finished the scenario when same thing happened but it didn't manage to pull out of it.. had to hard re-start. Other than this issue it runs pretty damn good on improved graphics settings, even the big city map ran good down low, though when I pulled the camera back it did get a little choppy but I was expecting that anyways. Im planning on a getting a new processor soon which should fix that..
Steiner14
Panzerfest, i know a similiar behaviour from our music-studio, when plugins were sucking too much CPU-power, or a sampler instance used too much memory. Then the host seemed not to react anymore, not even the task manger showed up - but sometimes waiting - even for several minutes - solved the problem and the system came back again. The next time that happens to you, try to open the Windoze task manager and take a look at the CPU consumption and the memory reserved to several tasks, especially CMSF.
Catacol Highlander
I'm getting a similar reaction - lock ups, some of which unfreeze themselves after about 30 secs, some that do not. It is particularly happening during replay in turn based play. Also after one such lock up I had a vehicle suddenly reposition to the other side of the map, right in the corner where it was promptly knocked out only to find on the next turn that anther identical vehicle was sitting in the same spot. Huh??? I also had a lock up when browsing the editor, and it required a ctrl-alt-del exit. Frankly I have played the game now for about 30 mins and am going to have to shelve it unless someone can come up with a work around. I am on an AMD Core Duo 4600 and a Nvidia 7600 graphics card. Panzerfest
Still getting crashes almost every game I try and play, most of them seem to be occurring when I move the camera to a new part of the map and my computer is processing the detail on the new terrain, also last crash was precipitated by what sounded like 100 syrian voices trying to play all at once! Ive been fiddling around withsettings disabling processors, tweeking ATI catylst, AMD optimizer on/off, ngame setttings , ect ect some seem more unstable than others but Im still getting the same problem..
ickis
Try disabling the second core, its easy to do. core 0 core 1 1. Run the game. 2. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up Task Manager. 3. Go to the Processes tab. 4. Right click on CM Shock Force.exe 5. Select Set Affinity... 6. Uncheck one of the boxes.

Panzerfest
Thanks anyways! I think Im going to order a new processor and reinstall the OS and see if that does anything. But I probly wont get around to that for a week or two....
Panzerfest
Well after further playing around I have found a SEMI stable configuration.. -I uninstalled the ATI catalyst software after trying the 7.8 beta version with no luck. -uninstalled the AMD optimizer. -run on one cpu and priority one above normal I managed to play 10 QBs and get thru the part of 1st campaign mission that was always freezing on me without a problem. This compared to 4/5 times crashing with 3/4 of the time requiring a hard re-start.. Madmatt, hope this helps you narrow down the gremlin(s), if you want me to try some things out for you let me know.
Panzerfest
Forgot to mention, I say 'SEMI stable' because every so often I get little hangups, where the screen will freeze for a split second the the frame rate will build back up in a sec or two. Im sure with my previous setup would have resulted in a crash.
