Sneaksie
Here's translation of internal guide for our modelers i've promised a while ago. It contains requirements for vehicle models made in 3ds Max. http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Unit%20modelingTOW%20eng.rar We also uploaded two models from the game: Staghound http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Model_M6.zip and Sherman M4 http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Model_M4.zip as an example. Archives contain 3ds Max file, main textures and files with material and hierarchy information as described in this guide. If you make a model, please write about it in this forum. We'll convert it into game format then and make it usable in the game [ January 29, 2008, 01:14 PM: Message edited by: Madmatt ]

War RaVeN
Yes for sure the link doesn’t work.
CharlieMike24
It doesn't work as it appears on the post... But, if you cut and paste the full address (excluding the quotation marks)into your browser, it does work. The problem was the space between the word "Unit" and "modeling" "http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Unit modelingTOW eng.rar" Thank you Sneaksie
Oudy
Thanks Sneaksie The guide is great. I had deduced the purpose of a number of the mats but not all. I have a question, though, does the model have to be done in 3dMax or can you use GMax or another (cheaper) 3d program? Oudy
Sneaksie
Problem is that our converter was made for Max files. We are currently looking into possibility of making it more universal.
FinnN
http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Unit%20modelingTOW%20eng.rar That should work. Great guide - pretty clear for the most part. Just one question - 'mesh prominence'? I'm not familiar with this term, do you mean each collision box needs to be a convex mesh or something else? Oudy: I would guess that 1C use a custom 3DS Max plugin to generate the in-game object based on mesh naming and bone structures. Now theoretically you can move 3D objects from one program to another and keep this intact, but in practice it generally needs a lot of cleaning up so I'd say that yes it'd need to be 3DS Max. You can intercept the output from various gMax plugins and then bring that into 3DS Max for final export, but again I'd say its a non-starter unless the person doing the export has time to tidy things up (plus 1C would be breaking the gMax license agreement). BTW is that a new multi-turreted tank in the docs - don't remember seeing that before! Have fun Finn
Sneaksie
It's M3 Lee. It's in game encyclopaedia and you can create missions with it. It's not used in the stock missions because it was used mainly in Africa and in USSR (lend-lease). There is no lend-lease version of it in vanilla game, but a mod was released couple of days ago which icorporates in the game tons of new versions of existing tanks (for example, M3 Lee for soviet forces, captured KV and T-34 for germans, most captured german ones for USSR, Staghound for UK istead of US). It also changes somewhat many missions and adds 3 new ones. Must have! It's for Russian version now, but i'll try to translate it and help authors of this mod to make it available for you guys too:)
Sneaksie
Yes, convex definitely is a more accurate word (for shapes at least). Language barrier shows it's ugly face:)
Stoppelhopser
We are currently looking into possibility of making it more universal. Would be good thing in the longer run if the team can find time for that. Not a lot of people can afford MAX, but there is the free "Gmax" which comes with Microsoft Flight simulations and the free "Blender" and "Wings3D" among others. "Blender" is very capable nowadays. If for example .obj format could be converted into TOW models one day that would provide an impetus to modding.
Madmatt
I updated the original post from Sneaksie with the fixed link. I am hoping that with the advent of the Uber Patch, more people will be trying to mod the game! Madmatt
uberGeezer
I have DL-ed the sample Max models, and started reading the modeling guide. Unfortunately, the Max model of the M4 Sherman causes 3dsMax9 to CTD. The model of the Staghound seems OK.
