Hensworth
That's too simplistic in my view. Take the infantry assaults on tanks in CM. It has had to be explained countless times to people that the grunts aren't actually tossing grenades at the tank from 30m away but that the animation represents somebody sneaking up to the tank and sticking a grenade in a weak spot. If the graphics actually showed that, it would be better. Is this a big deal ? No. Is it worth neglecting some other aspect of the game over ? No. But do better graphics have added value in and of themselves ? Yes, they do.

I really don't care about fancy graphics. They just take up designer time and computer capacity without adding to the information players need to play the game. The same it's true for me.

ChrisND
I will bet one hundred dollars (or Euros and yes I know the exchange rate) that CMC never sees the light of day in its present incarnation. Seriously. Who will accept my wager?
