3D Card Relative Performance

Recommended Posts

Been collecting some of this for a while. There seems to be a number of posts recently about what the best video card upgrade might be. Thought this may help. The ordering favors the tests run at higher resolutions and with faster CPUs. Some cards may change a position or two depending on what they're running. The Kyro chips seem to vary a lot, though.

Thanks! Glad you like it. I have a decent little table of basic info on various chips (just core and mem clock speeds), but this part of the BBS doesn't take HTML, unfortunately. I may have to email the Madone and ask about that.

On a Mac your best bet for a problem free video card is one based on the Radeons. The GeForces are faster, but have some driver problems at the moment.

On the PC, anything based on a GeForce2 or newer should also be fine since the latest drivers have fixed almost all of the issues in all of the Windows OS (when it comes to CM).

The next question is how much do you want to spend and how fast is your current computer ?
