Cpl Carrot
When I started my comp last night, the CD ROM would not work. When a CD was inserted it would look and spin up a few times before deciding that no proper CD was present. When clicking on D drive under 'My Computer' I would get a message that the drive was not accessable, retry or cancel. I could open the ROM with software (right click and select eject). I played around with different CD's and no joy. Same thing happened this morning. However, when I tried this afternoon it works fine. Now I am worried what will happen if I have to turn it off. Anyway, does anyone out there have any ideas as to a cause/solution to this? The ROM is about 4 months old. TIA Cpl Carrot
Schrullenhaft
More than likely your CD drive is bad. If it has a problem telling the OS that there's a disc in it, then there's probably some sort of hardware problem with the drive itself. You can attempt to 'dust it out' with some compress air, but more than likely there's something wrong with the laser pickup or some other electronics.
Bertram
If it is only 4 months old I would pull it out and bring it back to the shop. I know they will swap it with no problem where I buy my hardware (as long as I have the invoice). Bertram
Cpl Carrot
Would condensation of the lens be a cause? It was rather humid when the ROM was playing up, and the weather has now turned rather dry. Cpl Carrot
