Some testing of subs-modders take note

Recommended Posts

Well my theory is that with the settings I have, the

subs are doing enough damage to the CAs that it all

evens out in the end. True that means less damage to

the capital ships, which usually stay in port anyway

unless/until the Axis navy comes out to play. If I

make the subs' attack ratings higher then they are

doing too much damage to the CAs, and Britain is

spending all their MPPs repairing their escorts.

Now it sims the British furiously churning out new

escort ships left and right to keep the subs in

check (and while I'm at it I think making the

British have to BUY all those future CAs which

show up automatically might be a good idea).

Oh and Timskorn, British ASW level at the end of the

game was 5 (checked in the Tech Table when the

game ended), but only 1 British CA had been

upgraded (to level 1 only), and as I said the

British didn't repair them very often. The US

apparently didn't spend anything on ASW, and were

at level 0.

Good work JDF, but........ this may be OK for an AI game, it will not alleviate the naval roundup I referred to in H to H games.

When the surface forces are adequate they will corral a sub with surprise contact. Subs can only spot one tile while the surface forces configure themselves two tiles away surrounding the sub and unknown to the sub.

After each stop of sub movement using the "surprise contact" feature, the surface vessels reposition for the next surprise contact until the sub is exterminated.

The sub never escapes. So with these proposed modifications it will only take a few more turns, probably two, and the sub is dead.

What we need is some way for the sub to escape this roundup.

Dave, nice to have you back.

What I mean in 'theorycraft' are those that experienced something once, or even more than once, and deem it as fact, without truly testing it.

Thanks TK,

I have noticed that you've been VERY active

In the meanwhile,

With some X-tremely art-ful devise

In scripted AI, and otherwise. smile.gif

Apt point about:

"Scattered and too-occasional anecdotes."

I agree.

Small sample size is the bane

Herein, and, of my Profession

As well,

Since MANY "psychological portraits"

Are soon enough

Over-turned... even, derided,

And rightfully so,

By another, more diligent

And faithfully testing individual

Or group.

Rare indeed is the fast-drawn!

Smoking gun actually emitting

ANYTHING of substance,

Saving, perhaps, colourless, odourless,

Hot air. smile.gif
