BeauCoupDinkyDau
Was this a Brittish or American army? I am designing a fictional scenario on the south-east cost of Italy in June/July of '44, and the maps I have show the 14th army driving up the coast at that time. Darknight (DC)
The 14th British Army conducted Operations in the Indian/SE Asian Theatre....AFAIK, it was not in Italy.
Michael Emrys
Hmmm. Wasn't there a German 14th. Armee? The American army in Italy was the 5th. I think the only British/Commonwealth/Empire army was the 8th. I am open to correction on all points though. Michael
Michael Dorosh
There was a 15th Army Group (British) in Italy - which kinda indicated more than one Army....
Philippe
This isn't really my period, but wasn't there a XIV Armee under Mackensen that was organized by Kesselring in response to the Anzio invasion? I believe it covered Rome from the Alban hills.

Darknight (DC)
and IIRC, the 15th Army Group was made up of the 8th British Army and the 7th American Army (hence the 15th Army Group)....I remember reading about that somewhere.

Kingfish
VJ, The Allies never had a 14th army in Italy. The two that fought there were the U.S. 5th and British 8th. Together they comprised the Allied 15th army group. The Germans did have a 14th army in Italy, as well as the 10th. The two made up the German army group 'G'. Perhaps your maps show allied advances going thru 14th army positions, as they did once the Anzio forces broke out of it's beachhead and began it's advance on Rome. BeauCoupDinkyDau
Thanks Kingfish. Cool site. You are correct; the US 5th army drove through the German 14th army while moving up the South-east coast. Thanks again!

Paul T. Gardner
You're right Michael, US 5th Army (Brit 10th Corps + US 6th Corps) landed at Salerno, and pushed up the West side of Italy, Brit 8th Army (5th + 13th Corps), pushed across the straights of Messina accompanied by landings at Taranto, then pushed up the East side of 'the boot'. These Armies together comprised the 15th Allied Army Group. They faced the German X Army (Vietinghoff), and later after the landings at Anzio the improvised XIV Army (Mackensen) also. These comprised the German Army Group C. To complicate things, there was also a XIV Panzer Corps (Hube, then Senger Etterlin). This probaby just complicates things right? Michael Emrys
Thanks, Paul. Interestingly enough, I was just about to ask what it was that von Senger und Etterlin commanded. I knew he was in there somewhere. But didn't he get an army toward the end? Michael
