coe
I was playing "death ride of the 424th" and I wanted to see if I could fire at low level tank contact (sound only) with a tank hunter team. I did target it but then it switched to follow vehicle...now here's were it gets strange....the white follow vehicle line pointed in the opposite direction of the contact thing, in fact it pointed to a place twice the distance away but (in the opposite direction)...so I decide to send the thank hunter team that way...sure enough there was the tank...and kabooom...I like panzer wurfmine's on IS-3's they make them go boom with smoke and flames.... anyways I think this is a bug because I don't think the follow thing should not have revealed exactly where the enemy tank was when I had a sound contact only that was in the opposite direction. btw, what exactly is a Panzer wurfmine? it's not magnetic is it? It'sd pretty nice and can be thrown from buildings without starting fires or suppressing your own unit.... (the other cool thing was 3 flame throwers on an IS-III does the trick....) coe
Oh yeah I made some modifications...I wanted to see how well tank hunter teams would do in a closed in urban environment (I took out the big kittys and put in elite khaki clad German speaking humans instead)... Stalin tanks go boom......
Panzer Leader
Not too clear, but I believe I've seen what he's talking about. In a game a while back, it was night and I put an assault (follow) command on a generic "Tanks Sounds?" unit. Well, the command line went 180` the other direction - can't remember if it was immediate or a turn later - and sure enough, I eventually discovered that the "tank sounds?" unit was in the wrong place and my infantry was following the correct tank that was about 30 yards the other direction, though still invisible. coe
Actually so the follow command literally pointed to the exact location the tank actually was, even though the sound contact location (which I know could be erroneous) pointed to some where entirely different. I think this is a bug because if you just do follow on a sound contact you can actually determine where the vehicle actually is all the time, instantaneously (i.e. you can even do follow, to find the tank, cancel the command and then plot your moves accordingly to the real location of the tank to blow it to smithereens or at least prance all over it like a rabid squirrel trying to drop explosive acorns down various holes and pipes in the tank. Madmatt
When I get some time later today I am going to check into this and see what I can find out. Madmatt
coe
wow, there's a chance my bug will will be on the 1.02 patch...I will be immortalized in CM history... the accolades, the iron cross, the (what is the award the russians gave?), the victoria cross, the silver star, etc. etc. (now the other thing I want to find out is if you have two split squads, like one w/o ammo and panicked beyond all reason, and the other one is healthy with full ammo, and they join, what status will they be and can you split squad your way across a map, i.e. split, then one team joins over to the other, split again, etc. ).... MikeyD
You may have been the first to find the bug because you were the first to try attacking a sound contact!
coe
I bet under some circumstances, where it might mean that if you can see the enemy (s)he can see you, it might be better to pre-empt the otherguy if you have a general idea where he is but he doesn't know where you are, especially if you have a weapon that isn't easily detectible until it explodes (i.e. they don't know which direction it came from)..... ha ha.... ok ok, I don't know if I'd do that if I was against an IS tank - yeah maybe if I had alot of Panzerwurfmines....
