Peter White
How does one get a tank to smoke a general area with its smoke ammo, and not fire 4-6 smoke shells at the exact damn piece of dirt (if its gunner is accurate)? Did I miss something?
Pak40
you're lucky if you got a tank to even shoot off that many smoke rounds. They usually retarget any visible enemy. I don't know of a way to spread the smoke out in the same turn. Tanks are generally poor smoke generators. Their smoke is meant to only block LOS of one enemy at a time. It's best to use offboard artillery such as 81mm to smoke an area.
Apache
I don't think it is possible. A stepped targeting order would be useful for that in CM2. However, I did get a view behind a Pz MkIV which I'de ordered to lay smoke and it laid 3, shifting aim about 10m to the left each time.

Peter White
Thanks, Kingfish. That pretty much explains what I have seen. Like the tank that fires 5 smoke rounds on the same line when I give it a long range spot. I guess smoke curtains aren't available.
