Redwolf
Hi, guys, how are you today? I'm just reading Chamberlain/Elli's "British and American tanks of WW2, and they list all the prototypes the Allies built. I am ROTFL imagining what these things would look like in a CMBO battle, and I though I share the joy with you. Lesse, what do we have here? For the HE-loving laddergamers: [*] 155mm howitzer on M3 medtank chassis, no crew protection (actual thing with WW2 combat) [*] 8" howitzer on Sherman HVSS chassis [*] 8" howizter on Pershing chassis [*] 240mm howitzer on Pershing chassi [*] 250mm mortar on Sherman HVSS chassis These are lame (speed-wise), howeverwe have: [*] A hellcat with 105mm howitzer [*] 4.5" gun on Stuart (one prototype, unsatisfying) [*] Chaffee with rear-facing 155mm howitzer (a real thing) That's better, at least it is fast enough to be useful, in fact the hunt'n'reverse trick on the ridge will make them a nightmare. Those are all without armored crew space and hence are useful only in CMBO 1.12 with unarmored vehicles that can avoid tank shots But for the real lower of HE-intensive combat vehicles we have [*] A Sherman with 105mm howitzer, a super-thick turret and two rocket launcher for direct fire (prototype only) Various American overarmed thingies: [*] M2 medium tank, 1x 37mm + 8x .30cal MG (common crap actually) [*] M3 medium tank had 1x 37mm, 1x 75mm 3-4 .30cal (common tank in North Africa) - get the bunker'n'PZIV-busting 37mm together with 75mm Sherman power? Halftrack's worst nightmare? [*] Quad .50cal on Stuart chassis, rotatable but no crew armor [*] Quad .50cal (remote controlled) on Chaffee Panzer IV in problems? [*] Chaffee with dual 40mm AA (a real thing) And finnaly assorted useful and fast toys: [*] Various flamethrowers on Stuart basis, including turret - Wasp with 2 MGs? [*] Various 76mm AT guns on Stuart (but open crew space) The British also had strange toys, but it was mostly unimpressive. However, there is the Tortoise, which is a 32pdr (derived from 3.7" AA gun?) on a Jagdpanzer-like Chassis with 7 men, 225mm front armor (angled) and 174lbs weight. Cross-country speed 4 mph... [ 01-13-2002: Message edited by: redwolf ]</p>
