A useful little tool

Recommended Posts

Just been playing around with this little gaming tool.

screen.gif

It will show and log your game frame rate for all openGL & directX games.

It can also do a screen grab and capture avi movies from the game ... i tried with CMBB and it grabs the movies no problem ...( but no sound)

... but check the website faq regarding screen resolution and file size !

FRAPS

All that in a 58k download ! worth a look

Above is for Windows. For the mac, the no.1 tool is SnapzPro . For Mac OS9 which CMBB runs under, the name is SnapzPro 2.

It captures screen, sound out, sound in, all at the same time or individually and exports to Screen image, movies, etc.

You can dl snapzpro at http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzpro/

note this sw is quite expensive at 40 USD, you can try free for 15 daze.

cheers!

Prehaps someone could shed light??

Fraps has been around quite awhile and is primarily used to test video drivers, graphic settings, options, etc. in games to get the best tradeoff of frames per second versus eye candy. It is used extensively in combat flight sims, where your frames per second is crucial.

The screen capture ability was recently introduced to Fraps (a couple of sub-versions ago).
