Kingfish
When a division's Panzerjager Abteilung shows as having "fourteen 7,5 cm PAK 40 (Sf) in 1. Kompanie" does this mean Marders or towed Pak 40s?

All the best, John.
Kingfish
Thank you. The numbers jive with the typical Marder compliment normally found in Inf division's PzJg Abt. I just wanted to be sure since Zetterling's website sometimes mentions a division having Marders when their TO&E shows Pak(Sf), while other times it just says PzJag.
Black Jack Pershing II
Mr. Salt: Was bedeutet "lafette"? I am familiar with selbstfahrend or selbst angetrieben, but that one I haven't heard.
John Kettler
Kingfish, I agree with John D Salt. Black Jack Pershing II, Believe the sf stands for Selbstfahrlafette, literally "self-driving mount." Obviously, we'd translate the first part as meaning self-propelled. As for the latter, if we use such expressions as "im Morser Lafette," it means in mortar mount or configuration. Thus, I feel very confident that we're translating the German TO&E data correctly. Black Jack Pershing II
John Kettler- Thanks -- I had not seen that word before.
John Kettler
Black Jack Pershing II, You're welcome! I have a copy of a technical exploitation of a Lorraine based 15cm German SP gun, where, big as day on the cover, we find the word "Selbstfahrlafette." The document's formal title is "Preliminary Report On Lorraine S.P. Mounting: SELBSTFAHRLAFETTE (S.P.) LORRAINE Sd Kfz 135/1" by Major J.D. Barnes, R.T.R. and Mr. D.M. Pearce, B.A. (Cantab.). Dandelion
All this is quite on the spot but interestingly, the German army abbreviation [and acronym] for Selbstfahrlafette was "Sfl", not "sf". Yours Dandelion
Andreas
And for towed motorised it was MotZ, IIRC. Just as a pointless aside. All the best Andreas

The glossary in Chamberlain, Doyle and Jentz gives both, and though von Senger und Etterlin doesn't include a glossary, he uses both. I suspect you're allowed both, just like "6-pdr" or "6-pr" (but not, unless you wish to reduce Mr. Picky to a quivering heap of hysterical jelly, "6-lber"). All the best, John. Kanonier Reichmann
O.K......6-lber it is then. P.S. Can we get a photograph of your reaction for posterity sakes? Regards Jim R.
