Lanzfeld
I have only the CMAK demo right now. I have been playing the battles and I noticed, as I play the Germans, that my boys never use their panzerfausts. I know that they are panzerfaust-30's but I get to within 15 meters of enemy tanks and they still don't use them. Is it because my boys are in houses or is it a known problem with the demo?
YankeeDog
IIRC, when I played the Italy demo scenario as Germans I managed to get a couple of squads to use their Fausts, so it is certainly possible. I don't remember whether or not they were in houses at the time, though. What were the other details of the situation? Were your units supressed to any degree? Did you have them on "Hide"? Did you give your units Cover Arcs? -- Doing so makes them much more likely to use any available AT specials against tanks. Cheers, YD
Lanzfeld
They are unmolested in a house with an anti-tank arc. It is not only this one time though. I have seen this situation many times in the demo with never a faust shot. They DO use grenade bundles and that other German anti-tank thingy but NEVER the fausts. Mayby because they are inside a house?????
Thompson
Panzerfausts, like 'schrecks and 'zooks, had backblast which was something the firer had to take into account, as it would be very bad news to anyone caught in it. This effect was enhanced (i.e. worse) in a confined space, like a building. I don't know if CM takes this into account, but I guess it does, and that's the reason why your troops are hesitant to fire their 'fausts while in a building and throw demo charges or grenade bundles instead.
Firefly
I seem to recall from the CMBO days that German infantry tend to only use their panzerfausts at about a third of their maximum range. I'm not sure if that's still the case.
junk2drive
i recently had a usa bazooka fire from a large building, which promptly caught on fire. at least he hit the marder before he went into panic mode.
Coyotebd
Zooks, Shrecks and Fausts had back blast and generally aren't fired in buildings. However, I had no problem firing my Shreck in buildings in the CMAK demo. The whole advantage of the Piat was that it could safely be fired in very enclosed spaces.
Lanzfeld
Yes...my schreck does fire from buildings...just no fausts in DEMO.
MikeyD
I recall Matt saying in the v1.01 patch the Zooks and Shreks would be supressed (somewhat) if fired from within a building, but a Fausts (which had less lethal backblast) would not. Most of the times I've seen fausts at work it seems to be entirely at the AI's discretion. Target commands and cover arcs don't seem to increase or decrease their chance of being used.
junk2drive
my example was with 1.01 and i dont recall giving a command to target. i believe the armor appeared and the zook chose to fire.
MikeyD
I've had a zook fire repeatedly from a building in v1.01. Each time it rattled him more and more (from healthy to cautious, etc) but he was an unusually hearty soul and kept firing.

He may very well have been a hearty soul, but I'd be willing to bet that the reason he endured and kept firing was because he was also hardy.
