slysniper
I normally do not get too concerned about planes in a CM battles, they are wild cards with how they will affect the battle and normally the impact is manageable. I wanted to share this account though because this is the first time I can remember having been smacked on the side of the head with the affects of just one plane. Also I would like to hear the stories of others with their tales of horror from enemy planes. My story is of a battle plan that functioned perfect except for the fact that a flyboy from England flying a spitfire did so much damage to my forces in the first turns that I was never able to recover that much damage on the enemy. First staffing run he managed to take out both of my Sd kfz flak vehicles and an spw 251/9 stummel HT with the 75mm Gun. This to my surprise since I thought I had good spacing between them. With my anti-air units gone now, could things get worse? Second run lost me only an spw 251/1, I could live with that. Third Run, Oh no he has spotted my cluster of 4 spw 251/2 81mm mortar halftracks all tightly tuck together behind the woods with a leader spotting for them as onboard indirect fire. The guns of the plane blaze and in true hero fashion he manages to take out all four HT’s. Crews running for cover, can you blame them with what this pilot is doing with only MG’s The final and forth pass was just a little insult to injury by taking out another a spw 251/9 stummel HT, thus losing most of my HT support fire units. I can see that flyboy back at the pub that night just talking about his exploits to his fellow comrades. A hero born. I manage to run the enemy off the board, take my objective and do so without losing any of my Pz IV tank platoon, So even though I manage to still dominate the ground war and control the Battle, the enemy had cost me dearly in units by that one single plane, It said a draw but It was 54% to 46% to my foes advantage and I knew I had truly been beat for the first time by one man with nothing more than machine guns blazing for the first and hopefully the only time ever. Oh well

Guest Mike
Spitfires have 20mm cannon as well as machineguns by 1941.......
Evzone
If the parameters allow for air support I am on my toes for most of the battle, concealing my units from the air as best I can, keeping my vehicles in or nearby scattered trees, etc. Deploying a large number of AA weapons will keep them at bay, force them to prematurely break off their runs or keep them away altogether. As long as the AAs aren't engaging ground targets, that is. My two most memorable experiences: the first, when I arrived at the objective (a village) and the enemy (AI) was in tatters, many of them had routed off the map, guns and vehicles knocked out. My infantry hardly had to do any fighting. I had not realized the havoc the plane had created until I reached the village. It was a Spitfire if I recall correctly. The second, when I lost about 150pts. worth of heavy equipment to my own plane in one turn. They were in rough terrain, apparently not good concealment from air attack. Needless to say, I lost all desire to fight on... Evzone
Michael Emrys
I never had any trouble with opposing air. After several nasty incidents with my own though, I sent a message to the Air Force requesting them to kindly stay away from my sector of the front.   Michael
slysniper
Spitfires have 20mm cannon as well as machineguns by 1941....... It was 43 in Italy, that helps explain the results, but still at least 4 times better than any plane has ever hurt me before. My mortar HT's was my fault for how I had them, but who would of thought I would loose both of my AA trucks on the first pass. It was one attack I am sure to remember.
Bannon DC
QB or scenario? If scenario, what is the name?
Mike Summers
Am currently playing PBEM QB as the Brits. On the very first turn, a Stuka drops out of the sky and destroys my platoon of Shermans. They were properly spaced (or so I thought) and a 20mm AA gun was placed in between them. One pass, three burning tanks and my AA gun never fired a shot. Takes a lot of the oomph out of an attack.

I see you can relate, I might feel good about losing 9 HT's, compared to 3 Shermans. I can only remember once ever having a plane kill two tanks and that was just a perfect bomb drop.
coe
well I tried this I put like 8 x 20 mm quads at elite or crack level, plus 8 x 37mm at elite or crack level then as a decoy I put several bunkers (concrete) in the open and against it I arrayed several squadrons over several turns at the regular level - it was like minimum of groups of 12-24 planes I think maybe 48-60 in total. I think the flak boys racked up 30 or so and the concrete bunkers got slightly shaken with lots of bomb and rocket holes around - I lost a few flak guns but it was impressive considering that I think Aircraft carriers bristling with many many more AA guns (along with the escorts) probably wouldn't have done as well!
