meldorian
I have finally gotten hold of CMAC, and to me, it looks like the tanks are turning faster than in CMBB. Is this impression correct? Also, I noticed that penetration values for the US 76,2 mm gun are somewhat higher than in the older game. I tried them out against Panthers from moderate ranges (300 to 500 m), and the formerly tough cats died surprisingly quick. Does anyone know which game modelles historical vehicles and guns more accurately, CMAC or CMBB? Thanks
Redwolf
The turn rates have been bumped quite a bit, and the bog rates reduced. I didn't notice the U.S. 76mm is more powerful now since I avoided Shermans in CMBB due to bog and turn rate of non-HVSS models. Here's the penetration data: CMBB: Angle 100m 500m 1000m 2000m 0 123 113 103 88 armor piercing (ap) 30 96 89 81 70 793 m/sec 60 47 45 41 35 apcbc (large he charge) 0 131 93 61 28 tungsten (t) 30 94 67 44 21 955 m/sec 60 32 25 17 11 apcr 0 72 65 56 43 high explosive (he) 30 59 53 47 36 823 m/sec 60 34 31 30 24 CMAK: 0 142 131 119 102 armor piercing (ap) 30 110 102 93 81 793 m/sec 60 53 50 46 40 apcbc (large he charge) 0 72 65 56 43 high explosive (he) 30 59 53 47 36 823 m/sec 60 34 31 31 27 [ March 21, 2004, 06:37 PM: Message edited by: redwolf ]
Redwolf
Rexford's book says: 76.2mm L/52 at 500m 116mm against homogenous armor and 122 against face-hardened armor. 3" M79 131 and 112 respectivly. CMBB is obviously taken from that data. CMAK could be the 3" number but I am not sure what gun that is. Is that the gun on the M10 and BFC gave it both to the Sherman and the M10?
Redwolf
Looks like the M10 data made it into the Sherman 76.
K_Tiger
What does wondering me is the relativ low energie loss. The pennetrating stats dropped only from 500-1000m 12mm to 17mm 1000-2000m. I was beliving the kinetik energie will drop mutch faster if the target is farther away. Or did you forgot the 1500m stat? Also its hard to belive, the difference between 0-500 (loss is 11mm) and 500 to 1000m (loss is 12mm) is only 1mm. Btw. its interessting to know how long it takes for the sherman to get penetration stats on targets 2000 meters away? with two trucks of ammo?
MikeyD
I recall BFC was quite pleased with itself (themselves?) for being able to field updated penetration info in CMAK. I somehow doubt they'd purposefully substitute good CMBB data for bad CMAK data so more accurate CMAK data should be assumed. Still there's a few debatable points. The 75mm gun Sherman's increased ability to hole the Tiger has raised some eyebrows (though my own Shermans have been having little luck in that regard lately ). If by 7.62mm gun you mean the captured Russian gun on the Marder in the game, the German gun is theoretically firing improved German-made rounds from a converted long-caliber F-22 field gun, not the Russian ZIS anti-tank gun in CMBB.
Redwolf
I think Rexford cleared up that the new Sherman values are actually OK, he answered my questions on this a few weeks ago. If you search for "Tiger sides Sherman redwolf rexford" you should find it. If you find it, please tell me which thread it is As for the Sherman 76 and the M10, it looks like a plain mistake, obviously the M10 data made it into the Sherman 76. Unfortunately, Zaloga's M10 book doesn't directly give the gun model number on the M10 so I couldn't verify that the CMAK values are actually the same gun as the 3" in rexford's book. The 3" M79 could also be an AA model, not the M10 gun.
