JonnyEnglish
CMBO... Self-Propelled Artillery - do these vehicles need LOS (like normal tanks) to fire or can they carry out indirect fire?.. I realise it might be a stupid question but I can't find a specific answer to this in the manual or in the Tips threads.
Bonxa
No indirect firing I'm afraid. Only mortars can do that with the aid of a HQ unit spotting for them (area fire only).
Brent Pollock
...unless it is SPA mortar halftrack (e.g. SPW 251/2), which can also perform as noted by Bonxa.
JonnyEnglish
OK, thanks. I'm guessing then that if you start firing your (valuable) SP Guns when there's lots of enemy tank-killing armour or guns about, you're gonna be dissapointed really quick... Anyone have some tips & tricks for best use of SP arty?
Wicky
Make sure first you've eliminated everything within range that can hurt it, then proceed to chuck HE at leisure at your enemy. If your in a bit more of a rush make sure it operates on your target within a keyhole, so it's more difficult to counter target with mortars, guns etc. It is possible to use early to offensively take down from long range two storey buildings & churches by carefully positioning them to only see/target the top floor thereby taking down whole buildings in the process.
JasonC
Keyhole. Meaning, peek between two houses or other LOS obstacles, so that only a narrow pie slice toward the enemy side of the field is visible. You only need one target in view. The enemy may have several heavy AT weapons left, but if none of them are in that narrow field of view, you can fire for effect until that target is destroyed. Then any others in the same slice. Then pick a new keyhole.
